We lost our old girl Amber a couple of weeks ago. She was 11 (just). She collapsed and just did not recover, and when her head swelled to 1.5 - 2 times it's normal size with fluid, we and the vet decided that the kindest thing for her was to put her to sleep. Even though we had a week to say goodbye, we are heartbroken. We keep saying, never mind, these things happen, she had a great life etc, but, well, those that have lost a friend know what it's like.
Only now can I tell you all. She was my dog you see, I trained her, did everything training wise with her, except the showing, that is not my forte. She was a fantastic agility dog for me, being awarded the most improved dog and handler in her first year training by the dog club we attended. Amber and I had a special partnership in agility that no-one could understand. I am not the slimmest and fittest of people, and at times, Amber had to work 4 or 5 jumps ahead of me, always with me steering her from behind. She managed to watch my directions and listen to my commands despite my not being alongside her, which to anyone who ever has done agility, well, I hope you can understand why she was special to me.
Amber was also a successful show dog in her day. She had a good time one Crufts and someone from America wanted to buy her. We obviously said no. She was ours and here to stay, and that she did.
I could babble on and on forever about her, but I think really I just wanted to tell you all, and say I still miss her...........
Bye for now, Nina

So sorry Nina. She is at the Rainbow Bridge now, without illness and pain. Playing around with the others who are there. Thinking of you,

We know we have to say goodbye to them someday but it doesn't make it any easier when the time comes. When I lost Abbie somebody said to me that the ache and pain in my heart was just them settling down there forever.
Big, big hugs Nina. There will come a time when you can talk about her without crying (I can sometimes but not all) and you will begin to remember the good times and cherish them for what they are.
She will always be close by. x x x x x

Thanks for all your kind words. It helps, it makes you cry all over again, but you know you are not crying alone. One of the hardest things is my 3 year old son Luke, he doesn't understand and he told me to go back to the vet to buy Amber back. She's his Amber and Mick the vet cannot have her, so we must go and buy her back. I told him that she is a star in the sky, watching him from up there, he has accepted that. Nina, it is so hard when we lose them, they get into the very veins of our hearts. it is a true heartache when they go to the rainbow bridge. remember and smile about the good times you had with her and you will get through it, to be able to smile when you think of her instead of cry.
Take care Lynn

I am so sorry to read the sad news.
I often find it hard to know what to say in such sad circumstances but you are not alone in your pain and although your emotions are still raw, there will come a time when you will be able to reflect on all the good times and how much she brought to your lives.
I am thinking of you all.......

I'm sorry Nina---and I sure know how Luke feels---I still keep having the feeling that one morning I'll wake up to Enka just standing beside the bed watching me and waiting for me to wake up and take her out, the same as we always did.
Amber, Enka and Zippo are all playing together at the Rainbow Bridge, waiting for us.
