I know my Dutch should be up to it, but I'm not finding it easy!
I'm trying to find ringcraft classes on the Leuven side of Brussels.... I've been given the name "Lavonia" for a class in Leuven (apparently they meet in a bar, on a Monday evening), but I've found nothing on the Internet....
What I'm looking for - a class where we can practice "show-ring" stuff... Stacking, handling, etc. Both me and Izzy are beginners, so we really need help! Do any of the Belgian forum members know of a class where we can get a little hands-on experience? We're based in Tervuren, but are happy to trave, within reason!
thanks in advance,
Sian

Hi Sian, About the classes in Leuven, I think they are names "Lovanium" (Latin for Leuven?) and you can find "more info" on their website: www.lovanium-dogs.be/I just visited their website, but theirs not much info on it... Perhaps if you contact the webmaster of this site? I know that they have an international dogshow in "de brabanthal" on 04/08 and 05/08 ( www.brabanthal.be/nl/index.html ) I myself go to puppyclass at Kumtich, near Tienen.. link: www.hrvtienen.be/main/Their website is only in Dutch, sorry They have show-training every 2 weeks on Wednesday's.. Hope this helps!

thank you so much! Although I'd tried quite a few different vowels, there's quite a difference from "Lavonia" to "Lovanium", so I'll let myself off for not working out what the name was supposed to be! I have written to the webmaster - hopefully they will be able to help me! Unfortunately, we cannot go to the dogshow next Saturday, as we are away then... I will have a look at the other website as well - I can understand Dutch, but it is still very hard work for me!! Thank you again, Sian

Hmmm. Nothing back from the Lovanium webmaster... And there are no other means of contacting them. Looks like I'll be driving to the other side of Leuven to Kumtich on a Weds evening... Any idea which Weds is ringcraft?

Hi Sian... The ringcraft is ...tonight and then every 14 day's on Wednesday Normally we would go tonight but a dentist appointment for my daughter made us change plans. But that's why I know that the ringcraft training is tonight. You can always ask for a trail lesson (yesterday their where some people on puppy class having a trail lesson also)

so I could just show up, tonight, then? Or do I have to register, or meet with people beforehand?
(getting Sat-Nav off shelf!)

Yes,
You can go without phoning them or so...
The only this you have to do is go to the cafeteria and there you will find a little office (middle of the room, right hand side). There's someone you will be able to help you further (they could ask for 1€ fee, that's what you have to pay at the start of each lesson) Just tell that your interested in show training (ring training) and that you would like to have a trail lesson...
Hours of training: 19u30-21u30 But do show up 45 min in advance, so you can be sure that you can participate...

thank you for that extra info!
Right! Sat-nav programmed, dog-treats prepared. I've got a book to read, in case I get there too early...
Maybe see you next time? Meanwhile, I hope the dentist trip isn't too unpleasant!

Hi Sian! How did it go? did you find it? The dentist went ..great My daughter (of 12) pulled a here own teeth, but there was a piece of it left in the hole.... In the waiting room suddenly she told us (my wife and me) that...she had pulled the rest of the tooth. To be sure we waited for the dentist and she examined my daughter, but no more problem... So we went for the dentist...for ...nothing

ohhh how frustrating for you!
Yes, I found it... and got there 15 mins before everyone else!!
It was really good. Lots of advice, and a really good experience for both dogs! I got Cassie out of the car, once Izzy had made a total fool of me, and then we sat and watched the others do their stuff. I think I learned as much watching as I did when it was my turn - and it was good to see other people have problems too, if you know what I mean?!
I think we'll definitely be going back!

I'm glad it went fine and that you found the club!!! Anubis and I are just in puppy class, but they really give me some good advice...Our walkes have much improved since!!! I found that in this club there where really lot's off people just wanted to help you with educating your dog in a right way and giving you all the info you need They asked us if we where interested in show training, and my wife and I are curios about this, so I guess we will meet!! Since there are no other Weimaraners in the club I think it won't be hard to recognize each other You have 2 weimaraners? How old are they? Did they bite a lot...that's really the only problem hat we have with our Anubis... At the moment he is sleeping and then he looks sooooooo helpless and sweet...but he can be a little devil also...

They were extremely helpful, both the acting "judge", and the other club-members. One was even helping with the translation, when I was a-struggling!
Cassie is 11 years old, and Izzy 7 months - I must be mad!!
And yes, Izzy is still mouthy. On another forum, there is an on-going debate as to whether you should let a puppy "mouth" (ie wrap teeth around your hand, but with little pressure, and certainly no breaking of skin). Personally I feel that it is good that she learns how much pressure she can use. If I feel any tooth pressure, I squeal.... Of course, this meant that for weeks, all I seemed to do was squeal!!
I think we'll probably spot each other at a meeting, yes!!

I'm really glad you liked it Always strange to recommend something to somebody a thing that you just got to know, if you know what I mean? But again, I felt right at home at this club and they are giving me some hints and tips that works, so...
