[ Hi just wondering if anyone has come across a constricted pupil problem in a Wei before, I have a bitch that first showed this problem at 13 weeks for a maximum of 30 minuets, we had her at the vet in 10 minuets and they could find no reason, we switched of the lights and checked her out finding the eye responded but the pupil stayed dilated with no light, as we again switched on the light the pupil returned to normal in a matter of seconds, the vet and I put it down to a bump playing with the other dogs maybe but not sure, the problem it just happened again and the dog has been resting for over a hour prior, the pupil is dilated to a match head size or less the other eye is normal the dog does not show any pain or annoyance, after flashing a light in the eye it started to enlarge opposite to what it should do but a reaction all the same, there is no evidence of injury and the dog has been in a low light for the past hour or so and sleeping prior to me noticing it, as I write the eye is nearly normal again in fifteen minuets ,anybody with any ideas they would be appreciated, HI FOLKS, JUST BEEN READING THIS POST AGAIN AND THANKS FOR ALL THE SUGGESTIONS, THE BITCH IS NOW THREE YEAR OLD AND THE CONDITION HAS NEVER COME BACK AFTER LOSING HER BABY TEETH, JUST THOUGHT I WOULD LET ANYONE WITH THE SAME CONDITION KNOW, GREYFLIGHT COMMENTS WERE SPOT ON.

A friend of mine has a spaniel who is having small seizures at the moment. She has done a lot of research and most seizures/fits (hers has not progressed into proper fits) happen after resting.
She went to see one of the top homeopathic vets in the country and is now on some treatment, only three weeks into it. He seems to think it was the vaccs that set it off. Just a thought.......

No idea, but I'd wanted my vet to seek advice from a specialist.

"she could pick up a grape"
John! Grapes and Raisins are toxic... please do not allow her any more grapes! If you see twitching of the iris, it is a sign of stroke, very fast twitching. Cheryl

I know of this happening in a human who was diagnosed with occular migraine (sp?). Happened in both eyes at different times. Always the pupils dilate no matter what the light conditions, and there is sometimes discomfort.

Just for clarification---when a pupil is opened wider than normal, it is dilated (what you'd see when it is dark) when it is light, the pupil is close down to admit less light, it is then constricted.
I have never had a dog with the kind of problem you describe so I'm no help there. I think your vet is the best person for advice. I'm not surprised that he doesn't have a ready answer---problems like that which have symptoms that come and go can be very hard to diagnose. Keep us updated on what you find out---I"m interested to hear if and what you find, if anything. It will be new to me too.

Hi and thanks to everyone for there reply , wetdog you are right of course I was wrong it is constricted, thats what happens when I get worried, and Cheryl no it is not glaucoma I did read that and I have been told as this would not come and go, and migrane is out as there are no other symptoms, as we are 300 klm from a major city I have to wait for an appointment to a specialist, the most probable cause is injury and damage to the nerve or possible mild seizure that is from my vet in consultation with 6 others in the practise and none of them have seen this before, but then these are the same vets that cut cows tails off with a hacksaw and wont dock, so I will wait for the specialist and keep you informed, by the way the bitch was tracking deer quite happily this evening.

Ive seen this a number of times over the years. It is always puppies and always when they are teething though, not sure about 7.5 months. Nothing has come of it in my experience and it spontaneously just goes away on its own. My wee boy Gabe did it the other night, looks so funny, one constricted pupil and one dilated pupil, I actually took photos!!!!! He had been playing hard with the big girls so trauma is a definite possibility But he wouldnt stand still (he is 4 months old after all) Hope this helps but obviously if you are worried then off to the Vet with you...................

Thanks Tasha, been there and ruled them out the eye is to quick to resume normal operation for iether of those, I think Cyd ( (greyflyte ) is on the right track the photo is spot on at least and sometimes we look for a worse problem than we have, I think all the indications point to a bang, after all you know how quick a Wei is and two of them are quicker and dont bother to look when running together but I will Keep an eye on it. sorry for that

sometimes the eyes can just be different because its reacting to different light sources. Mine do that all the time but I have a key hole shaped pupil and damage to the retina in one so the light getting in is never the same as the other eye.
