My weims are getting a lot of exercise right now, while I'm out picking berries or fishing and while at work outside. The salmon & rice does not put weight on and its not moose hunting yet so I decided to try the chicken backs and necks.
I ordered 3 cases each 30 pounds in weight, & 69 cents a pound which came out to $20.70 per case. The freight for 3 cases was $100.17 so the total was $162.27 and I guessed at how much to feed each dog.
I like Slade at 80 pounds weight, since he's lost weight, he was showing too much backbone and ribs so I gave him 4 chicken backs. He usually inhales his food but this time he enjoyed his meal and took his time which was a nice surprise. Do you think this is too much or should I give more?
I only gave two to Misty Rose since she is staying at 65 pounds and she puts weight on easily. She seems content with the amount and would have eaten more if I'd give it.
Bully got the same as Slade, even though Bully is smaller and 65 pounds in weight, his ribs show a bit too much for my liking but he is hard to put weight on.
Boris got 4 also since he's a pupster yet, his weight seems okay and he looks and feels to the hand just about right for his age at 7 months old.
Slade never relaxes out in the field...we went berry picking and he sat down, then laid down and then laid out flat! I have been checking him for a sprain or his belly, etc., he's just relaxed and content! He's never done this in his entire 3 years of life, while out in the country...what a difference!
Misty & Bully also relaxed, not entirely as much as Slade at first but nearly Boris seemed spunkier, he kept finding bush branches to throw (he's got perfect aim!) in front of me to let me know he was insisting on practicing retrieves when he wasn't eating out of my berry patch.
Do you think this is enough, too little??? Its very different than I've fed so far and they seem to have reacted positively immediately. I'll be watching for stool results and weight gain. I know from feeding raw meat from our area in the past, usually fall time, they haven't reacted this positively within the first day, never mind first few hours! The raw seems to take longer in the digestive tract and stabilize their demeanor and activity levels into an even keel
I know its expensive for our area but so far I'm seeing results they and I like very much...this raw chicken is new to us and if it continues to go so well, I might just keep Slade & Bully on it more often than Boris and MistyRose since they also do well and easily on the salmon.
