Hi all, just back from our Specialty show. Talk about finding muscles where you dont remember them......my legs are soooooooo sore. A fun day made speial for me by family turning up to support and encourage. Also people with pus I have bred came along for me to see how they turned out, and boy was I pleased. Anyhooooo Congratulations to BIS winner Ch Carnmellis Zedekiah, bred by Pip Simmons and looked wonderful on the day. Reserve Best In Show was my own bitch Ashlaren Queen of Hearts, this point gave her her title at just 13 months. My boy (Rookie) Am/NZ Ch Tri-D's Greyflyte Grand Slam (Imp USA) went Intermediate in Show. Lovely Lucy (Ch Holdfast Love Song) who I bred won Veteran bitch and boy did she have a ball going round that ring. My frind Wendy won a tough puppy bitch class with her Ashlaren Cezanne. Next day, just another Champ show, Rookie took Best of Breed. Hopefully pics available soon.......

Better than normal Narelle!!! Our clubs are struggling to get entries, it is a whole different scene over here. Now you can understand why seeing 240 weis at your nationals was worth me seeing. Here is a pic of the BIS winner Cyd

I can recommend his judging manner. He was courteous, friendly and considerate. He took his time and was very thorough. You will enjoy him.

Is it that there just aren't the dogs, do people just not bother showing, or is it that they aren't wrapped in specialties??? Wendy

We struggle in our State too to get a decent entry for our Specialties. If we get 40 dogs we are thrilled! When I judged a Specialty in New Zealand years ago there was an entry of about 60 dogs and that was a good entry I was told. It is hard for clubs to fund getting Specialist judges from overseas.

It is a complex issue. Generally there are less breeders now and puppy people just arent interested in showing. Life has changed and it is hard to get them along to fun day events let alone shows.
It would be interesting to work out the percentages between the entries for the Oz Nationals and ours.
4 million in NZ and 24 entries = ? % of the population.
How many million in Oz?? for 240 entries.
Someone else will have to do the maths cos Im no good at it.........lol
In April this year we have Dana Massey coming to judge our next Champ Show in Cambridge, North Island. The year after we have 2 UK Wei Specialists coming, so it isnt hard to attract overseas judges, just hard to dredge up more dogs than are currently being shown. Cyd

Hi
Was the show held on its own or were there other general championship shows on around the same time? I was thinking that if there were more shows on around the same time, this may attract more entries.
I don't know about what everyone else thinks and whether this varies from country to country but dog showing here can be an expensive hobby especially for those who are not central and I think this is a factor.
What is everyone's average entry for a championship show? Here, I would say it's around £20 for one dog.
Re: the sum. I think the best way to get a fair reflection on that sum, is to take the amount of weimaraners bred within say, seven years, and then use that figure with the show entry figure.
Just don't ask me to do the maths!!

HI Daniela Yes there was a Champ show the next day. We try and hold shows in conjunction with All Breed shows. The show IN Easter is in conjunction with 2 All Breed shows at the same grounds.
When it comes down to it there were only 2 other regular exhibitors missing from the show anyway. We dont generally see people from the South Island.
There just arent the dogs out there being shown.

My goodness, there would be a riot and the dog world would die overnight if entries here were that expensive!!!!! Here local-type shows are around the $8 - $10, and do go up a bit. That is roughly 3.5 to 5 British pounds; 5 to 7.5 Euros and $6 to almost $9 US. (Guess who found a converter!?!?!) Our NSW Specialty is $18, usually for an international judge. Dana Massey is doing the Good Friday one here is April too. The only thing is that we have large distances, unless you live in Sydney, which is where the most shows are in NSW, and most Weis that are being shown live. It is rare to come across many from outside of the greater Sydney area. We live almost in Canberra, and Sydney is considered not too far away, but it is 500km round trip for me to get to the RNSWCC grounds, so petrol is an added expense. Some Toy and Jack Russel exhibitors will take 10 or more dogs to a show, can't imagine anyone doing that at 10 pound per dog !!!!!!! Wendy

Gosh there's quite a difference in entry prices there!
I have found the European shows to be more expensive so I am not surprised at the £32 sum. Is that where CACIBs are on offer?
As for the the Australian entry fees, I guess it's all relative in the end. $10 Aus Dollars works out to just over £4.00 which would probably buy you a catalogue at a championship show here and if in London, would probably just scrape you a sandwich, bottle of water and a bag of crisps. LOL.
When I showed in Ireland this year, the whole thing including petrol, entries, ferry crossing et al worked out to be £700-800 pounds. As luck would have it, it turned out that it was money well spent.
