Dear friends, Just plain curious what people like to do when it comes to incredible desire to cuddle up with your dog but you know that giving an "inch" to a Weim is like promising him/her a key to your house and maybe your car I am still holding out on both bed and sofa issue. It's off limits for him and he knows it. Although he is testing this theory by putting his head on my lap and then paw by paw as I watch TV on my sofa. Considering caving in or is it a suicide by pretty-eyed tailed teenager?

haha, tasha, I am starting to feel the same way, we have a two-sitter sofa and the boy is getting too big to squeeze between us. He is now only allowed to join in when he is invited to. Otherwise, it's reserved for larger "animals-owners" The bed, however is totally off-limits to him. How hard was it to "untrain" your pup to not sit on the sofa? I hear it's the hardest thing to do when the dog already knows he/she had access to the place and now it's not allowed they fight for their rights with all their sweet souls!

Hi all, can anyone tell me why Hugo (5 year old) settles down no problem under the duvet when he 'knows' we're not moving, but as soon as one of one of us gets up he gets out and gets a hold of a corner and sucks on it like there's no tomorrow? It's the only time he's ever in any way puppyish. It's like he goes into into a trance but as soon as we return he buries back down underneath!

We let our dog sleep in bed with us just after the invitation and during the day when we are not at home. Argas was still a puppy, when he learned do not climb in the bed at all, it's our property. then we showed him that he can come only by invitation. now it goes so

I have always slept w/four wei's and a few other dogs and cats on a double size bed and sharing the sofa/chairs, Boris and Bully sit on my small wooden chair w/me while I sit at computer, too;) I had to buy a queen size pillow top mattress so my grandson can join the wonderfulness, he and Slade/Bub also have a pup tent filled with blankets and pillows in the living room and I can fit in, too, but Bully has to wait by the tent flap- Boris likes to join on the bed for awhile but goes to the big dog crate by the door, usually he adds another blanket on the way, or at least one of my slippers or pants from the dirty clothes bin:( LOL

I don't have a sofa, so I suppose that the bed is the closest we come to the subject of this scientific inquiry.(LOL) Dixie and Riga[German Shepherds] are much more interested in going outside than getting on the bed. Dixie is getting older now and starting to feel it. She asks for a boost up to get on the bed once in awhile, but it isn't someplace she thinks she just HAS to be. Riga gets on the bed occassionally, but seems to sort of prefer to be in her place in the corner by the door. If the girls are on the bed and I come over and tell them to "move", they both get up and make room for me. There seem to be three "territories" mapped out on the top of the bed----my half, and the other half divided into two areas. If I'm not there, it is ok to be on my side----if I tell them to make room, they go to one of the other two imaginary territories. It does not seem to make any difference to them which of the territories they go to----they both seem perfectly content and respect the other's space whether they choose the head end or the foot end.
Riga is the less interested of the two about being on the bed. Riga is the watch/guard, and prefers her sentry post by the door. LOL, if I call her to come up on the bed with us, she sometimes comes up on the bed a bit reluctantly-----and lays there till she thinks I've gone to sleep----then she jumps down and goes back to her sentry post.

The Woozle has sole use of one sofa, when it has his cover on it.... when we hoover and remove the cover he knows guests are coming and they will sit there. He'd never dream of taking either of our armchairs. He has a mattress under the kitchen table, but prefers to sit up on the pew, at the table when I am doing a crossword or reading..... again he knows he's not allowed up when we're eating. He has a huge wicker basket with mattress and bedding in the bedroom but will come on to our bed for a cuddle and always onto the part where I sleep if I go to the bathroom.......but he moves over without being asked when I return. He also sleeps on our bed when we're away, but he visits our housesitter during the night to check on her. He never tries to get on her bed because she's elderly and he'd pin her down so he's not been allowed to start. It is the only time and place he allows the cat to 'win' - His Cat IS allowed on the housesitter's bed when she stays.
