My name on MSN messenger is Wetdog, my email address for a contact is flwetdog@hotmail.com
I am a manager and moderator on some other boards. My suggestion is, if you wish to be on Messenger, that you set up a seperate hotmail.com account to handle mail from the boards and messenger. Keep your "home" account seperate. You can use your hotmail.com public account for your MSN passport also.
The reason for is that there are people who will flood you with spam email---trying to sell you everything from software to pornography. There are also a lot of fraudulant scams out there trying to get private information such as bank account #'s, credit card #'s, or any other information that they can---NEVER give out information of a personal nature unless you personally know the person you are giving it to. Also do not give it out over Messenger---electronically, it is no different than talking to a person in the street, you have no way of knowing who might be listening in.
If you wish to arrange a meeting in person with someone you have met here on the board, or converse with on Messenger, it is a good idea to arrange a meeting in a public place, and maybe have a friend along. This is just good sense, and should not be different than if you are arranging a meeting over the phone with a person you have not met yet.
A seperate public mail account is also useful because you can set the spam filter to filter out the mail you don't want to see. Hotmail will also scan incoming attachments for viruses, worms, trojans and other bad things---it makes an added wall of security for your computer at home. Also, your mailbox will not get so full---and dump important messages you wish to receive. This will be important as the board grows and you begin to get more messages, and larger messages, for instance photos that can sometimes be large.
I'm not saying any of this to in anyway discourage ANYONE from getting together on MSN Messenger to chat(6 can have up to a 6 way chat in one box--LOL, fun, but it gets a little hectic trying to keep up with everyone). I chat on Messenger all the time, and I look forward to chatting with people here too.
Just want people to keep in mind that it is the electronic equivalant of talking on the phone, or talking to someone in the street---you cann't always be aware of who might be listening in, so if you keep that in mind and don't give out information of a sensitive nature you will be fine. It is very convenient and allows you to share pictures, music, voice, video and a wide range of entertaining and useful things.
