Kate, WELCOME to the board! Someone was telling me about this dog called Alabama, and now I finally see what he's like, WOW. It's amazing how you live "worldwide", so to say, - our puppy Audry is like that ;D , she was born in Tasmania, travelled to me in Latvia and the plan is for us both to go and join Mr Wetdog in Kansas City, Missouri later this year. She is going to be shown a lot this summer while we are still here. Again, welcome to the board, will be great to see you here whenever you can. Irena

Hi Irena and thank you for the welcome! Well, you can say hello to Audry for me because I am also Tasmanian. ;D I was born near Launceston in Tassie and grew up there until I was about 17, when I left to live in Hong Kong, then returned to Australia to go to University. So, I am a Tassie Devil like Audry- it will be fun to meet up sometime! Audry looks beautiful, so it must be a Tasmanian trait ;D hee hee hee, Kate

Hi from another Tasmanian.. .. My name is Maree and I handle 'Grausturm' Weims.. I show German Shorthaired Pointers under the Acewild Kennel Prefix, all my breeding is based on the same as 'Trupoint Kennels in Victoria. aust. I met Irena on a USA Weim forum a few years ago and we have been great friends since, that forum was where I met Wetdog too. I have noticed that a few people say things like field dogs & show dogs. To me they should be in the same dog. Mostly my dogs go to "rough shooters" in other words they go to hunt.. no titles.. just hunt with their owners as they were bred to do. I understand what you mean tho' as I have seen pics of some of the 'field GSPs' in USA.. and they are tiny dogs with no fronts.. no substance... same with some of the weims too but I don't think quite as bad as what they have done with their GSP's. Now don't jump on me ..I'm not saying all of the field dogs in USA... but a vast number. Sorry but they look like large fox terriers. Yes I have had people ring me and have said "oh..Show dogs".. I wanted a working dog". Mine are Show dogs 1st .. but could & do go out the next day and 'work'.. .. So thats my bit on field & show.. Hi to All the Ozzies on the list and to everyone else.. give your furkids a cuddle from me..Cheers Maree TEXT

Oh yes, you are right there. Have you seen the American Field registered GSPs? Hmmm- they look like Pointers with their tails cut off. To the field trial people, this may not be a bad thing! If they look like Pointers, may be they run like them too K

Kate, is it true that Alabama is going back to the States this year? Would be a shame The UK needs new blood........... (in my very humble opinion) Nina and Jensen

Hi Nina, yes, he is going to the USA later this summer. There are some people very interested in him in the USA for field trials and for dual-breeding, but he will be coming back late in the year. He at least has some pups on the ground on this side of the Atlantic, so for me he has given something back to the breed for the future but you know as well as I do that the reception for new bloodlines is luke-warm in the UK at best, even though I think we need it for out-crossing to maintain health, even if it means diverting from 'your type' for a generation. When you out-cross you never know what you will get so it is always a chance to take, but then you may just get something very special. Some people will not ever take that chance. I took that chance, and I don't regret it. . I would do it again in a heart-beat. Kate

Kate I couldn't agree more about the UK reception to new blood. I am very much going to 'do my own thing', and learn from it. Rather than just taking specific kennel lines and reproducing them with my own kennel name. I don't intend to do that. I hope to make my own lines and be judged by them, if that makes sense.... Nina
