I am not a real "sporty" person, so I don't go jogging or biking, but we do go for nice long walks.
Outside* Audry runs around in circles like crazy, playing chase with me,
* I throw sticks etc. for her to retrieve,
* throw a stick sometimes and delay sending her (she often can't remember then where the stick landed and has to really search)
* cover her eyes and throw a stick and then give her directions with my hand
* go through sits and downs quickly
* if it's warm (in the summer), throw the stick in the river and let her retrieve
* jump over a fallen tree (can't jump too high yet or too much)
* sometimes just let her "hunt" in the field - no proper birds there but she does search nicely (off lead)
* take her ON the lead and run back and forth with her in a zig-zag pattern
* play tug with her (using the same stick or the ball on string) and hide it behind my back (work on her "focus", she knows to immediately look into my eyes to get it back
* have started working on heeling in the same way (through focusing)
* some time later work on the heel by using the choke chain
* gait her for the show ring a little (make it all fun fun fun as that is what she needs)
* stack her in different ways (not to forget to stack both ways, with the head left and right!)
* put her into a down stay and walk around, increasing the distance, hide behind a tree, come out, praise, walk around more, etc (very gradual and stress-less for her)
* I imagine an "agility course" in my mind between the trees and we run (off-leash) and I try to guide her - she goes CRAZY about it and jumps up trying to lick my chin after we've finished our "course" ;D
* teach her some little tricks, such as retrieving her leash vs. collar on command; play dead (started today); crawl; point at items I hold in my hands, with her paw; walk between my legs (figure "8"), bark (it all has to be done gradually with Audry, she won't learn something in one class)
* put my foot against a tree and she jumps over my leg, back and forth
I can't even remember what else we do. Not ALL on the same walk, that takes a lot of time actually!
I also keep everything short, switch from one thing to another often, and play with her in between (actually everything is pretty much a game). And I never let HER get disinterested; always finish the game when she is most excited, so she'd want more.
Inside (when it's raining or dark and gloomy outside or when she had cut her paw):
* play tug with our ball on string (working on her focus)
* play "hide and seek" with treats - I put them high up on furniture and sometimes even wait an hour or more, and then let her into that room and tell her to "Find it!" She has to sniff real high to find them, and I do notice she does the same in our field training sessions then.
That's all that comes to mind for now.
What does everyone else do?
Suggestions? Ideas? Am I doing something that is totally wrong?
