Hi! I'm not good at showing my dog. Lot's of judges have told me so The problem has been that I didn't start stacking Atlas before he was 1 years old and he doesn't like it at all. He always ends up arching his back and looking sad. I've started to try and free stand him and got my husband to take a picture while I was doing it. I think this is the best one. Does this look OK? Should his head be lower? In which picture is he standing best?

Nice question.. Both have their good things in my opinion. At the upper picture he is standing better in the front. His frontlegs more straight and his head on a good height. If you look yourself you see on the upper pic that with his head higher his frontchest will come more to the front. At the picture under he is standing better with his back. He looks steaper on the upper pic because of that.

Hi Sylvia! Thank you for helping me! I find showing Atlas very hard , but I'm trying to get better at it. It helps to have someone to ask!

Cannot really help out, cause I suck at stacking my dogs. They look very bored in the ring and when I try to stack them, it never works like it does at home. I do have some comments on the pics though. I think the first pic is definately the better one. His front is placed under his body and his head is "on" his body, unlike on the second pic. Only his left hind feet isn't placed perfectly I think. I'd say, not bad!!

Thanks Marjorie! I was wondring: In the first picture his head is higher then in the second picture doesn't that make his shoulder look "steeper" then it should? Also everybody keeps telling me that in the ring I should "know your dogs strong sides and show them off in the ring". I imagine how to this is obvious to very many, but I don't have a clue!! Could anybody help me?

I've tried "free standing" him again. Is this any better ? (I've tried to get his head a bit more "on " him, if you know what I mean.)

Hi Ingvild, I have been showing weims for 10years now here in the UK. I know we stand our weims slightly different to Europe but I hope I may be able to offer a couple of pointers. In the first picture he is showing off his lovely reach of neck, he head is lovely and level showing off its good shape. His chest is good and deep, my only slight change would be to place his from legs a little closer together (it may be that the angle of the picture isnt telling the whole story!). His front feet should about a fist width apart maybe slightly more depending on how much chest he has. Maybe if you took a front shot of him I would be able to see more. If I were standing him here now I would lift his back end up slightly as he seems to be dropping into his back end a little. I prefer his back end in the second picture. I am sorry but I dont like the look on him in the third picture, I dont like his head dropped and he is stretched out too much for me. But as I said at the beginning the European dogs are shown differently to the UK dogs.
can I suggest that you buy a mirror and stand him in front of the mirror then you can see exactly what you are doing and what to change.
I hope this is of a little help to you. I hope you have fun showing him he is a nice dog.
Lynn

Hi Weims! Thank you for your pointers! I think I am putting his front feet more then a fist apart. I'll try to put them closer together next time and try to get a picture. Last time people that passed us must have thought I was crazy. My husband wasn't their to take pictures so I had to run back and forth trying to get a picture of him without him turning his head ;D That's why his head is in that angle because I ended up putting a treat in front of him to get him to look straight ahead!
I don't have a picture of him from in front when he is stacked. I'll try to get one next time.

I vote for the second pic as with his head at that level he looks cleaner in neck through topline and in the first he has the roll over his shoulder. Well done on getting him to stand still while you go away from him!!!! lol, mine wouldnt do that!! I second the advice of getting a mirror and practising in front of it, I did it in the beginning and after a while you get used to what looks good from above, you get the "feel" of the stack. Good luck in your endeavours. Cyd

Let's just say I didn't get it on the first try. ;D I have never tryed to get him to stay without him turning his head to look at me and a great deal of pointing and treats were needed!

hey hey, can anoyone tell where to start? what should I say my weim, when I stack her?? Firstly she was stacking quite good on the table, but now and on she doesn't want to stay at all. Never. I try to attend her with food, but that doesn't work. I guess I would never attend any show:(

Hey Ingvild, I didn't see this topic, so... pls forgive me for a delay answer. I like him at this photo the most! Stunning and aristocratic - bravissimo, you are doing a great progress with your training of free stacking with Atlas!!! Keep up the good work!

I try to attend her with food, but that doesn't work. I guess I would never attend any show:( My advice is: Think positive (as first and most important thing, because it's all in our head) and be consistent! If she doesn't stand still do not rewrd her with food. If she stands still just for two seconds give the reward, later and later you will ask of her to stand longer and longer. Step by step. Go slowly... I say "stay" when I stack Allegro. You can use the same word or you can use any word you want - the most important thing is that when she stands still while you say that word that means "stay" that she gets rewarded...

Hey FialCo Brera looks great! Most I like first and the last pic! I am teaching Uoga free stacking too, but she stands better when I stack her manual. Almost free stacking What should I do to keep her tail up? Food doesn't help and if I start to talk to her kindly she comes to me and gives a kisses... And manual stacking, she looks good but stands only for a short period of time still, hope she will learn to stand long soon.

Hey, Jurate! Thanks for the nice comments:) I think Uoga stacks good in the first pic, and keeping tail up would be only with encouragement, praising, stimulating, because e.g. Brera lifts her tail up, when I do that:) And should the tail be up indeed? I've read somewhere here in forum, that undocked weimies shouldn't lift it high?? Look at the LH weimies:) In the second pic her back legs are too far? no?
