Irena, shame I didn't 'know' you back then, it would have been great to meet up. You're a dedicated worker, I don't think I would have been able to resist the temptation of a concert!! Have you ever thought about coming to Crufts? Entries or should I say dogs, can push around the 250 mark and it's a great day out, or four days, if you want to do the whole shebang. Can sympathise with trying to understand a different class system. I have been brought up on the UK system so it's second nature to me but when I have shown overseas, I got myself in a right pickle trying to understand what class they were on, and what class I was supposed to be in! I would have looooved to meet up! I was however on a lookout for Chip (knowing already that he would be in my future puppy's pedigree), but he wasn't entered in that show. He he, I just chose to work since I had $$$ to raise to have my dream come true.... So I was greedy as to all the overtime offered, LOL! The boss was pretty happy about it too, I think - "Who wants to be on let-out on Saturday evening? Irena, of course!" ;D I have definitely thought about going to see Crufts! I have been following the Weim results for a few years now. Who knows, maybe some day we'll go look!

No we wasn't entered at that show, shame as it would have been nice for you to meet Chip in the flesh. If I remember correctly, that day was boiling hot.....?
What you really need is for Brian Ferry to be playing at the NEC arena, so then you could go straight from Crufts to the concert. That would be a marvellous stroke of luck but there are a lot of concerts at the NEC arena around the same time of Crufts, so you never know!

Hi Irena, *****Do you have any suggestions about where to start when you want to breed? Unfortunately no. I know a fair bit about auto-immune diseases, but not about breeding. I do have a few thoughts about what not to do when breeding, but those thoughts are only down to common sense and mostly born out of frustration, not scientific knowledge. Talking with the breeder about what might be in the lines would be a good start - but the information you will be given is only as good as the knowledge the breeder him- or herself has - and is prepared to pass on. Whilst in my experience most breeders talk freely about problems like bloat, HD or ingrown eyelashes, when it comes to auto-immune diseases, I hit the proverbial brick wall. In fairness, most breeders are not aware that there might be a problem, a belief which is unfortunately re-inforced by many Kennel Clubs ('Ostrich' and 'head in sand' come to mind....). At present there is no way of positively identifying "carriers" before the event. They are perfectly healthy looking dogs. It's only when a breeder is unlucky enough to inadvertently breed two carriers together that it will become apparent that both parents are indeed carriers. And by then the damage is done.... If you think it might be of interest to members, I would be happy to start a new topic on auto-immune diseases in the health section in an attempt to raise awareness and hopefully a better understanding about those killer diseases. Despite common belief, immunity issues ARE becoming a huge problem in most breeds and auto-immune diseases are anything but rare. However, if I post this topic, I have to warn Wetdog that there would be even more talk about Hypothyroidism ...... since HypoT is an auto-immune illness and goes hand in hand with most endocrine auto-immune diseases..... Please let me know if you (and Fred) can stomach that. ;D Christina

Christina, by all means, please do post!!! And thank you very much! Daniela, I would have loved to see him. I have however seen Chip once, at WW'02 in Amsterdam, but I was busy looking at ALL Weims back then, and was practically overwhelmed! LOL, as to Bryan Ferry, in fact I went to his concert in Liverpool right after WW'02! And I am deeply grateful to my friends for helping me make it all possible.

Auto immune diseases are on the increase in humans too, and it is thought that our increasingly "sterile" lives are a factor with people obsessed with disinfecting things to death.
I believe the environment and the diet have a huge part to play in these conditions.

Gosh you have a good memory Irena....! Yes Sandra and I were there, as were Val, Narelle and Val's Sandra That was my first taste of showing overseas. I remember getting quite confused when I was asked to remain at the judge's table after doing my triangle! I didn't realise I would get a critique there and then. In the UK, you only stay around for the judge to write up a report once you have been placed (first and second and in some cases third). Not only that, I couldn't understand for the life of me what they were saying because of the language barrier Still, it was all good fun and I finally understood in the end
