Need some advice here. From my last litter, I kept a boy named Billy (no mates). He's been teething over the last couple of weeks and all new elements are there, except for one. P4 (or 208) is missing, the one on the lower jaw. Everything else is there. What do you think about that? Is this a reason not to use him at stud? I haven't made an x-ray yet, it might still come up, but if I would and P4 would be there but not breaking through, would that make a difference? Advice please, even if I don't like it.

So far I know, in Germany it would not be allowed to breed with him. :-( And I think there will be no difference if you can show the judges a x-ray picture, because the dog can not use the tooth. A difference would be, if he lost the thoth by an accident. But maybe you have luck and it will come up.

How old is Billy now? I would imagine if he has been teething it will come through.

He's 6 months now Daniela. I'm pretty sure he's done. I visited one of his brothers yesterday and he too is missing the lower P4, but on both sides. Why oh why? ??

Shame but rather a missing tooth than something really drastic. Chin up.

I didn't check Tash. I'm afraid I'm a bit naive and trust people too easily. I did check afterwards though (which was a couple of days ago ) and the stud is ok. My girls have all their teeth and from all the German and Austrian lines I know they're ok too (cause they write it down on the ped when something is missing). Thank goodness Dutchess has a correct dentition and I'll check the other girls when I see them again.

That is a pitty Mar that he misses the P4. But well... To be honoust there are worser things then only a missing element... The problem you might have is the showing. I don't know if you get a showresult on him....

Do they check the teeth in the uk?? I know they check the mouth but I thought it was just to check correct bite in which case the breeder might not have known if there was a tooth missing?
Just out of interest what checks do your dogs have to go through?? Can they be done in the uk I'd be interested to see what bonnie would chalk up as.

They won't notice Sylvia, I'm pretty sure about that. It's hidden properly since it's missing from the lower jaw. Germany is another story. They do check thoroughly, and they'll make a note in their breed books.
