Hi everyone my name is susan grant and I live in Christchurch New Zealand. I have owned 2 weis and am in the process of looking for a new one. Our last one died prematurely about 5 months ago and I miss him terribly. I look forward to using this site for lots of ideas and advice. I think weimaraners are quite remarkeable dogs!

Hello Susan, and welcome ! I am new here too. I am sorry you have lost your dog. It is so sad when we lose them at any age, but you said 'prematurely' , which is doubly hard to bear. What happened? Good luck with your search for a new companion. I agree, Weims are quite remarkable dogs .... but then, we are possibly a little bias on here Christina

Welcome Susan! No, weims are not quite remarkable! They ARE remarkable and more than that! Wish you to find a special one that will fulfill your heart again! Best regards, Kristina

Hi Susan--welcome to the board. Good luck with your search for a Weim, we have a few members from NZ already--maybe they could be of help to you.

thank you everyone for your welcome. My last dog suffered from epilepsy and other complications caused by the medication. My next weim may be close by. You'll be the first to know when it happens cause I will need lots of help and advice! Susan

I have only heard of one dog in Australia suffering epilepsy in recent years; can you tell us what lines your dog was from.....I also had a vizsla who sufferred epilepsy but he was controlled with drugs easily. I myself am epileptic so I am sympathetic to it.
If you feel like emailing privately greydove@ihug.com.au as I am most interested in steering clear of this particular health aspect in the breed.
