Well, you have to start with the parents of your future pup. I don't know what the rules and regulations are in Lithuania, when it comes to breeding, but make sure both parents are hipscored. The parents should be free from any hereditary disseases so I'd ask the breeder about this as well. I assume they won't breed with dogs with bad hips or hereditary disseases, but just in case. When you have your pup, make sure he'll get his vaccinations. Because there are no rules about when and what to give a jab for, ask your vet for his advice. Make sure you do worm on a regular base, while the pup is still young. Again, ask your vet for advice. As long as you feed your pup properly and give him both mental and physical (not too much when he's still young) exercise, there is not much you have to afraid for. There is one thing that you do have to be careful for, and that's bloat and/or torsion. This is a very serious condition and the dog can easily die from this, when the owner doesn't notice the signs. In most cases, the dog can't settle and is vomiting without anything coming out. Contact your vet immediatly, no matter what time of the day it is. It can be prevented by not giving food just before and shortly after exercise. You can also prevent this by feeding your dog proper food. The cheaper the food, the more you have to give, the bigger the chance the dog gets bloat or a torsion.

In a recent breed survey in the UK auto immune conditions were the most common, I believe these are on the increase in all breeds as they are in humans.
They are the most difficult to treat and so I would be asking lots of questions about the general health of the parents, grandparents and other litters.

Our pup will be not from Lithuania, sad but in our country we have only few weimaraner dogs and no kennel But in Poland we fuond our dream dog ;D Our pup will be from Fala Love'a Weimaraners kennel. So both parents are free of hip dysplasia (HDA) and healthy as I know. When we get our pup he will be... actualy it will be her.. . So she will be dewormed 3 times and vaccined twice. She would have an export pedigree too. So it's all ok I think with our future pup parents. And the breeder already told us about problems with weimaraners "belly" when they play after meal. But still I would like to learn more about illnes that can attack during our puppy or adult time... Or weimaraner has no other illnes... And more I heard that weimaraner is afraid of cold weather? Maybe someone knows somthing about infectious tiks illnes, as they like to run everywhere... Well I don't know maybe I am a bit captious, but I really want to learn all specific about weims untill I get one...

There are no specific illnesses you have to be aware of. Don't worry that much. Just let the pup be a pup and whenever you have a problem, just ask your vet for advice. (edited to add the word no )

Here in Poland we have had quite big problem with ticks from couple years. There are more and more ticks that can infect your dog with Babesia canis. This is a protozoon that locates in the erythrocytes and destroys them. It can be deathly disease if isn't treat enough quick by a vet. Most of dogs owners realise that it is a big danger for their dog, especially when he is a working one, and always protect them with special "drugs" against ticks. Unfortunately there are dogs that died because of such ticks...for example weimaraner - World Winner Dortmund 2003 Apel Udane Lowy (he was only 3 years old):( Do you have such problem in your conutries? Yes, we have Babesia canis in Lithuania too. And the only way to keep dog safe is to wipe it with some spcial aerosol or droplet as it works frighten ticks away as there are no other medicine. Also we have such ticks illnes like encephalitis it is head cerebrum inflammation, but at least we have vaccine against encephalitis.. Well human has... And I have never heard about dogs vaccination... Has anybody heard about it?

Lymes disease is the one that I recall hearing about in dogs - it is transmitted by the bite of infectious deer ticks and is caused by Borrelia Burgdorferi - a bacteria. A rash called erythema migrans appears in 50% of cases - can be confused with ringworm, poison ivy, insect bites. Antibiotics are needed to treat it, and it can be very dangerous to the dog (and human) if it is left untreated.
Weils disease is also another problem. This is also known as leptospirosis - and is spread by infected animals urinating in water or onto things that you or your dog come into contact with. Rats are the main carriers over here.
Both of these are not really common, but are things that you may hear of in the UK.

The diagnosis of lymes disease is extremely problematic in both man and beast and I know of one person who was extremely ill with it and took ages to be diagnosed even when it was looked for and I know a dog that died from it. Unfortunately many diseased appear atypically probably cos they do not read books! Deer ticks are not the only vectors of Lymes Disease either...... Lepto can be avoided by regular inoculation in most cases although again vaccination does not take in all dogs or humans.......
