Few days ago I've been in situation when owners let their dog into water when the air tempetarure was below zero, the sun was shining but in shadows there were ice and hoarfrost and the wind was very hard, I doubt about owners action not just to let but induce dog to swim in really cold water, but they said to me that their dog is going to be ok, as it is not dog with document, just simple small not noble dog and that I am to seariously... So I want to ask in what weather condition to allow dog to go to water?

I allow my dogs to go in the water when they want to. I don't think it will hurt them when they swim in icy cold water (to retrieve a duck for instance during a winter hunt) as long as you have a towel with you to dry them. Exercise afterwards is very important too, that'll keep them warm.

Good question! I have been wondering about that myself. I still asked Audry to retrieve from water a couple of weekends ago but I felt real bad about it afterwards. I couldn't even dry her with a towel because we were pretty far from the car and "backing up" at the retrieving tests in case some dog would refuse to retrieve from water. Audry is my little worker, she ALWAYS retrieves, but I felt so bad afterwards. There wasn't any frost back then yet (a little in the morning though) but I think now that I was totally wrong in letting her do it. She is not some fat Labrador with a thick coat after all. So I too would like to know what temperature (approximately) is too cold.
