Hi basmith - I am Christina - the one who wrote the article on this thread on autoimmune disease . It was my boy Thomas who had MMM (masticatory muscle myositis). I am so sorry to read that your Rosey is suffering from it too. If I can help you in any way, please contact me on c_icke@hotmail.com Please also study the following website vetneuromuscular.ucsd.edu/cases/1999/may99.htmlIt will give you all the information you need on MMM - but if you contact me, I can give you lots of 'hands on' tips. Warm wishes, Christina

We have a health problem with our little Weim girl (she is 10 months now).We brought her from France (American import to France). After we returned back to Moscow during the last 7 months she suffered several attacks of gastrointestinal distress with blood emissions during defecation and hyper temperature (39,7-40,0 tC). All tests showed that all indices were within the standards except the level of leucocytes that was higher than normal. She took a course of antibiotics with supportive treatment and after 5 days the situation improved and everything was fine again. We thought it was over but it happened again several more times. The most severe happened to her when she had her third day of the first heat period. Big bleeding ulcers appeared in the mouth, vaginal opening and large bowel. She had additional tests and again all indices were within the standards except the level of leucocytes. The diagnosis on base of colonoscopy /biopsy and cytology analysis: Lymphocytic colitis (autoimmune disease). The treatment included 2 –week course of prednisolone (corticoids). The breeder told me that 2 more puppies from the litter had the similar problems. At first we administered 25 mg of prednisolone daily and at first it helped. Now the doctor recommended to increase the dosage up to 40 mg daily as the previous dosage seems ineffective. Doctors say that sometimes the dogs overgrow the disease and it disappears with the maturity (hard to believe though) Has anyone faced such a problem with their weims? What is the forecast? What would you advice? Your advice will be very valuable. Thanks a lot. Slava

Auto immune disease means that it detects healthy cells as foreign and because of this they will be killed. Many diseases are like this.
