Pien my 8 year old Leonberger used to be full of health until recently. She's often down. Her movements haven't been well for over a year now, but this comes and goes and is gone more often then it's there. But over the last 2 months, things went downhill. She's been on painkillers for a while, but I couldn't really see a big improvement.
Yesterday I decided to take a bloodsample and made x-rays. She has kidney failure, her liver is not ok and she has severe spondylosis in her spine. Especially in her neck.
Poor girl!!!! I'll put her on painkillers until I've found a homeopatic solution.

Poor Pien indeed, big hugs for the nicest Leonberger I have ever met Mar, would accupuncture help her pain if the painkillers are not working? With the liver and kidney issues this might be the answer? Duncan laughed at me when I said it, but it might take the pressure off her system.... Nina x

I am so sorry to hear about Pien Mar. Perhaps some Reiki will help ease her pains and with three of you (no 4 counting your Aunt) she will be in good hands.
Big hugs from me and Holly who also enjoys her Reiki and when she doesn't she just kicks me away.

Hello Marjolein,
I am so sorry that Pien she is not well. I am particularly concerned you saying that she is in kidney failure and her liver enzymes being high.... If you have the lab results, what are her Potassium and Sodium figures (and the lab norm ranges) and what are her liver enzymes? - I am wondering what her Na:K ratio comes to. You were talking about waxing and waning (coming and going) symptoms for a year, and whenever I hear that, my antenna goes up. - What kind of pain killers is/was she on?
Warm wishes, Christina

Big Hugs for you Mar, and I would take Pien off the painkillers gradually, give her glucosomine chondroiten (spell?) daily, to let her liver and kidneys repair, along with acupuncture. My sis-in-law just finished her schooling in it for her husband who has many crashes/body repairs from racing snow machines- he seems to be repairing and a happier man:) Most usual drugs for pain create more problems and unhappiness in the long run, a miserable life... There are some homeopathic remedies for the liver repair: milk thistle and kidneys: www.whitedovehealing.com/homeopathy/liquitrophic.shtmlSoft hugs for Pien, Cheryl

No, she hasn't been on painkillers really (she was on Rimadyl). I just tried it a couple of days once. Now she's back on them and she seems to perk up a bit. I'll look into homeopatic stuff next week. I'm afraid glucosamine and chondroïtine won't help her I'm afraid, since this is caused by trapped nerves and a very stiff neck. Will try to upload the lab results later Christina, but when you see the x-rays of her spine..... Not good. Thanx for all the help btw!!!!!!! Tiz well appreciated.

Hello Marjolein,
I'm so sorry to hear that - Have you tried SAMe with her and/or acupuncture? Arnica might help to get the inflammation down around the trapped nerves .... You said that her liver enzymes are very high and that she is in kidney failure - so I am really worried about the use of Rimadyl. Are morphine based pain killers not an option rather than NSAIDs? - Since you say she is in kidney failure .... has Addison's been ruled out? What is her Na:K ratio?
Maybe I am clutching at straws, but with a diagnosis of kidney failure and elevated liver enzymes IMO the possibility of Addison's needs at least to be considered. I hope you'll manage to upload the lab figures - but feel free to send them to my private addy, if it's easier.
Thinking of you, Christina

The liver enzymes are not all elevated. Some are, some are not. I tried to upload, but it didn't work. I'll send them to you privately. But like I said before, it's the spondylosis that causes me more headache tbh.
