One of the puppies is poorly, he is very wheezy, he was the last one born and is much smaller than the rest. Been to the vets and he has been given AB's but the vet said if he has inhaled some milk he wont make it as the milk goes rancid in the lungs and kills them. Hope its "just" and respiratory infection. and will clear with AB's If youknow of anything natural/homeopathic I can give please do let me know. The poor little chap is fighting and still feeding from mum but any help he can get will be great. Lynn

Hi Lynn
From a human perspective Aspiration Pnuemonia is very serious but not unsurmountable so if pup is a fighter he does have a chance, anti-biotics will also help his lungs so don't give up on him.

He does seem a little better, he isnt wheezing as much now. he is still feeding ok and his mum is still looking after him. Trying to get 3/4 drips of AB's into his little mouth is hard but I will persist. Thanks for all the suggestions I am taking them on board....

Lynn, hope he improves and gets better quickly. Tasha's idea is quite a good one if you can get him to suckle from that one - usually there is too much activity around feeding time though and they all push each other out of the way. Do you have a small syringe? That might work ok.

I do have a small dropper that the vet gave me but trying to open a small puppy mouth at the same time as guaging 1 drip of AB is a complicated task. He is fighting and keeps going, he is still feeding so I have hope....

How old are they, sorry I have not followed any threads yet. I know how difficult it is to give antibiotics, as we have cats on occasion they need antibiotics, they are so so small. Heads are not much bigger than a 50p. They will practically bite your finger off when they get older not like dogs. I actually now buy my antibiotics for the cats synulox from Spain through a lady as you can walk up to a pharmacy and just buy antibiotics off the shelf there. Lucky lot! Hope he gets on the mend soon. If I have to buy puppy milk I always get Royal Canin as it comes with such a handy bottle.
Hope all goes well. Rachel

Hi Rachel, they are 3 weeks old, but he is the size he should hae been when hewas born, he weighs about 700 grams, they others are big bruisers and a couple of KG in weight. It makes it more difficult as he doesnt like the AB's, they smell of pineapple? These are synulox that he is having, cost me £12.00 for the 15ml bottle? Who is the lady Rachel? I would like to be able to keep some AB;s in the cupboard, although I dont give them willy nilly I do like to have some in just in case I need to give.
I havent given up on him yet, I will be starting to wean them all over the next few days.

Lynn, how is your little pup going? I have nursed a few littles through, and i have some questions. Is your pup warm to touch? Does he have a strong suck reflex? Is he breathing with his mouth open? Is he dehyrdrated (his urine would be dark)? Does he cuddle up to his littermates? does he move around? Is the pup running a temperature? Is he crying all the time? Is he gaining weight - if so how much? Important things to remember - keep the pup warm, hydrate the pup (include some glucose for energy) provide oxygen if needed, treat for diarrhea or infection if present. Marg

with the ones where we have had problems we've tried to give them individual time with the bitch so that they get a full chance at getting a good meal, it does work so long as the bitch can still see the other puppies. Usually letting them have their grub and then popping the bitch to one side with the pup and stroking her helps.
Hope he's doing ok.
