Hi,

Eukanuba would be one of the choices.

Eukanuba is a quality pet food. But since our boy didn't liked it very much, I changed brand to Biomill. This high quality pet food is a premium food from Switserland. As the name says, only natural ingrediences are include this food. My male is quit happy with it, and he used to on the lighter side of weight, that problem is sollved. ;D ;D

Illana,
I arived from the States last week and there I had to go buy dog food and saw that Nutro has launched a new food on the marked. Nutro Ultra, that is superior to Nutro Choice that we use. when we arrived I talked to the person that suplies our food and he confirmed that they took some ingredients like for example the Adult maintenance used to have chiken and Lamb, now only has chiken. we were using the adult maintenance and the adult large breed. I started to have soft poops and a few dogs got tin very fast. all dogs are dewormed and perfectly healthy

Slava,
the first 3 brands you wrote I've never even heard of them, I don't think we have them around here

All four are "made in USA" foods. Last year Europe limited USA imports (new regulation) to propect euro producers. In Russia popular foods from Europe are Bosch, Happy Dog (Germany), Flatazor and Royal Canin (France). Recently BioMill (Swiss) appeared

HI
We used Nutra (for active dogs) and we have started to give Royal Canin (also for active dogs) for about 2 months now. Hopefully our dogs look very OK when eating both of these brands and don't get thin but we had this problem when Nasti was eating only "home made" food. 2-3 times a week we add some meat, vegetables, white cheese, raw yellow eggs and chicken wings (every day) to dry food and dogs like these meals mostly ;D
Eagle Pack has appeared in Poland about year ago, we haven't tried it yet and I think that it is the most expensive dog food in Poland (second is Eukanuba). Bye M&K

In the USA, Eukanuba is the same as Iams, and this dry kibble is corn based which many dogs here are allergic to. My Misty Mtn Slade is allergic to corn and wheat. I use Nutro Nat'l Lamb & Rice, and the Chicken, Oatmeal & Rice which they all do well on. I recently discovered with a 6 month old weim pup (out of Saxman's weims sire: Banner) that the weims with a high metabolism need more natural foods in their diet along with the kibble or just a raw diet. They keep the weight, I believe because with raw it takes the body (naturally) time to digest the food and with dry kibble, it will expand after moisture but the food is already processed and possibly goes thru the body quicker and the weight is impossible to put on and keep on with just kibble. Just my theory but the results were quickly seen. I started adding raw chicken to "Daisy's" nutro na'tl and she held her weight, looked as they do when they just finish eating the dry kibble. I also cut up liver, lightly cooked/steamed and cottage cheese, included cream cheese and peanut butter mixed with chunks of cheddar cheese. I am hoping her owners continue this feeding routine now that they are back home with her. (Banner was mated to an unpapered weim bitch without the knowledge of Banner's breeder and without permission of Saxman's Weims. Banner was purchased as a show dog, with contract but the young woman who broke the contract never followed through.)

I got off the subject, sorry. I have learned from posts on other weim boards that there is a recall on certain dry dog food kibbles because there was a toxic mold causing death and am steering away from Eagle Pack right now because that was one I was using but it was on the list of recalled dog food. I also use Solid Gold (Hundenflocken), Alaska Feed Co Lamb & Rice, Innova (rich, have to add potatoes and rice at first to firm up stools) and Pressure cook salmon for mine. The salmon oil makes their coat very shiney. I have learned that too much salmon oil may cause easy bruising in humans so I like to change their diet, like humans change diet. I also use whitetail deer, moose, muskox and caribou with rice, potatoes, oatmeal, veggies and its easily cooked partially or wholly.

WOW - that is an impressive diet. I'm going to try the salmon on Iago. I gave him some cooked croaker the other day, mixed with his kibble (Nutro, by the by). He loved it but he, well, did a huge deal of poohping the day after. How can I counter this? I got off the subject, sorry. Have anyone tried Nutra Gold (for example - meant for large breed puppy)? The content looks quite "meaty" www.nutragoldholistic.com/

Hey Adatele, almost two years ago I researched Diamond feeds for dogs and didn't like the corn ingredient but have just now found your Diamond Nutragold holistic post and their nutragold lines do not have wheat or corn, I like their ingredient list:) Now to see how large the bags are...and the price in Alaska:)
I'm still feeding the Nutro Natural Lamb and Rice with home cooked pressure cooked salmon (whole but gutted for calcium) with white or brown rice. They still have a freezer full of frozen moose scraps which will be fed soon when the salmon freezer is empty, which will bring us into July fishing again. Then moose hunting in September. My "stateside" boss and her husband moved to New Mexico so I have not had muskoxen or white tail deer meat since they left.
Pojken loves the salmon & rice. I have to grind or chop the moose and give either raw or cooked, but prefer cooked with rice just because Bully (the above mentioned Daisy's brother) finally gained weight once I discovered last summer he had tape worms (I had just rescued him a year ago April, in very bad shape at 6 or 7 months old). I'm kind of worried about feeding the moose raw even though its been frozen all winter because of the possibility of tape worms.
With this recall and poisonous feed problem, I'm so happy none of us knows anyone who has suffered so far!
Rute, I think with the meatier or higher quality kibble you must feed less and you add rice or potatoes if its too rich. (Especially to safeguard from any HOD for pups or too runny stools)

Rute, I will post what we feed to Anya, you have seen her coat and can decide if it might be worth a try. For one meal a day, we feed her the best 'sensitive' diet that we can afford to buy, for us, it is a UK brand called Wafcol (fish and corn flavour, or potato and salmon flavour), which has a good reputation. Because it is food for sensitive dogs, it should be better quality ingredients . For the other meal, usually in the morning, my dogs eat chicken wings. This is their favourite meal, they sometimes have other things added, like vegetable scraps, or tinned fish like salmon, pilchards, or tuna instead, or even raw eggs, they even eat fruit. As long as the vegetables are not so big that they can get stuck, you should be ok to do this, and you can add these scraps to the dried food also. Anya LOVES her food, she really does, she also has things that she 'shares' with my 3 year old son. Her coat is usually fantastic, and I believe that this is because of the oils in the chicken wings. If she thins out, I add more chicken wings to her diet, if she gets fatter, I take some away, but I always feed the dry food the same. We must regularly worm our dogs, but this is a small price to pay for her to be happy with her food. Hope that helps you find something that works, it's never easy with their food, to know what is the best. What works for one dog, does not for another. Nina

since I first opened this post one year ago I am feeding my dogs Eukanuba. some get the Eukanuba Maintenance ( specially the females as they get fat really fast )males get Lamb & Rice or Performance depending on their methabolism. I cook everyday a big boul with Chiken and rice and vegtables to add to the kimble and they are doing great like this. the Eukanua performance is also used for pregnant females until they stop feeding the puppies.

Hi Rute, Interesting to hear that your dogs seem fine on Eukanuba. I was beginning to think that mine was odd! Cassie came to us on Beta Puppy (made her hyper-active, poor coat, a large number of loose stools and boy did she fart!) We tried her on James WelBeloved (UK Lamb and Rice food). She liked it, but still had loose stools, and was starting to look gaunt. We tried Eukanuba adult. She loved it fewer, firm stools, no more deadly farts. But didn't put on weight. Eventually we moved to Eukanuba performance, and she didn't look back! It's only in the past year (when she was nearly 10 years old) that we've moved her onto Mature, and now we have to over-feed a little, so that she doesn't loose too much weight. Our new pup is on Eukanuba large-breed puppy, and doing well (just weighed in at 10.4kg at 12 weeks) Cassie also has lots of extras - rice, pasta, vegetables, any gravy, or table scraps. Little Izzy is starting to wonder when her food-bowl will receive the "extras" too! ;D

We use Arden grange with firm stools from am to pm. We also give every scrap off the table including gravy, potatoe, veggies, and also we do feed raw free flow mince with bone, and dorwest herbs keepers mix. Just anything goes into our dogs diet. We have to watch our dogs during the summer months as they soon put on weight.
