hello everybody! I finally got sick of constant hearing that my dog looks like a bitch and and thus I need your opinions, and, most of all, some advice. Our problem (which I have already mentioned some time ago) is the fact that Rider isn't much of a dog that eats everything in every quantity (our Brita behaves this way, she's always hungry) - it takes lots of my effort to make him eat at least 2 measures of food daily! Consequently, he doesn't have that mass that, as people say, a weimaraner needs. What would you guys advise me to do? I have no idea how to make him eat a little more at least . Begging and threatening doesn't help. His being quite slim has one huge advantage, in the field he works more like a pointer than a weimaraner - the fact that he's light makes him almost flow in the air... and I can't say I don't like this But a little more mass would do no harm, I think. This is Rider and I today. I would give him some of my mass, but cannot really make it ;P Thx for all your replies. Patricia

Uhhmm, I actually do like im Patricia!!!! And what I like even more, is that he moves so well in the field. Shame he is no LH. He's not skinny at all. He's all muscles and no fat. I think it's just the way he's build. What you could do to add a bit more mass on him, is feeding him pasta's. Puppy milk supplements work wonders as well. Am curious what the others will say about him.

I think he could have a bit more muscels. How old is he? But he is not to skinny.
Give him a high energy dogfood (even better if you can get you'r hands on some fresh dog food made by meat.. the kind you keep in your fridge.. don't know what you call it in poland) And start building his muscels by swimming and climbind and pullig.
Otherwise i think he looks wery nice.

Marjolein - I am glad you like him Most people whom I know still say that he's too 'light'. indy - Rider will be 2 years old next month. Nowadays I give him ths royal canin food, but I'm still thinking of changing his diet into raw meat + some pasta and cooked vegetables 'pudding'. He's got lots of swimming as he just loves retriving from water, running also but climbing is not really possible - no hills in my area What about pulling? Do you mean - pulling something I hold in my hands or pulling a trolley or a tyre or sth, for example? Thanks guys for replies, I hope some more people post me their ideas this is the way he and his girls rest before start running around again!

Rider has possably the genes of his father Jason. As a pup of 6 months, he was very thin and small. I really thought he was a she .... He had also thin bones for a dog, but otherwise he looked nice.

Hi Paricia! Here's my opinion. Just opinion with good intentions... Here's the example how I think and act: as a first thing, I try to be realistic when I compare my dog with the breed standard. I try to be aware of his good and his bad points (every good weimaraner has them! ...even the multiple BIS winner has his weak points) and than I try to "bold" this good points through quality food, exercise, good show training and care . This means. If my dog is slimmer type, I concentrate on gaining more muscles on him. Eating more raw food or any other food in bigger amounts would just make him fat. He is the way he is, this is genetics. We can't change that. I don't know how much more substance is Rider going to gain through the years, but for sure, there's nothing to worry about. Some judges prefer slimmer types, other prefer heavier... Yous should tipp for those, who prefer Rider. And you can prepare him by training him so, that he gains more muscles and improve his gait in the ring. So his elegnace, muscles & great movement may be his best credits that will make him win over stronger dog that might not be so good prepared... Hope you understood what I meant, it's hard for me to express exactly what I meant sometimes, as my english is not so perfect... Work with him (exercise) + good food, this is the only way... If he doesn't like to eat...than cook for him (lots of meat). Did you try with BARF? I give it to Allegro twice a week. I try to feed him at least 2 days a week with raw meet. Since we exercise this last 2 months more than ever I made this a basic rule. 2-3x a week (and on the exercising days) raw meet... And Allegro is slowly gaining his muscles. He is young we still got plenty of time to gain more substance and muscles. I think that 2 years for a weim is still too early to expect of him to be like adult. Give Rider more time... Hope it helped a little bit... Kristina

I agree with Kristina. The build of a dog is (partly) genetics. That not nessesairely means that he is badder than others.... At the age of 2, you can't expect a full grown dog. So, give Rider some more time !!

Hi Patricia I'm absolutely not an expert on Weim development but I'm going to venture a comment because my own weim Iago (15 months ) is rather thin. I think your Rider looks very nice and I've read that, although they have different developments and growth processes, a Weim is very likely not to be fully developed at 2, he still has a bit more building up to do in terms of body mass. If your dog is energetic, healthy and in good form on the fields and running and playing, etc, then maybe its a simple case of his constitution tendings towards light than bulky. Not everyone likes bigger weims and I'm sure Rider has other qualities apart from mere size. And it really helped to talk to his breeders and have them have a look at him. He has pretty much inherited his father's constitution and will "beef up" a bit in the next 15 months. PS - I'd also love to donate a couple of my own pounds/kilos to Iago

Talamasca, I had the same problem with my Drago... until 3 years of age judges continued to state that he was well built but light and.. feminine! I didn't know what to do to make him gain mass.. he had a lot of exercise (running, jumping, swimming etc) so he was very muscular but.. you could see sinews and muscles and no mass! I tried with food but I noticed that exceeding in a way or another meant intestinal problems. Then I asked for advice to his breeder and to other breeders: they said that dogs from certain lines reach maturity even at 4 years of age. I only had to wait.. and they were right, he started to put on bulk when he was about 3, and without particular training or food. So.. just be patient!

Thank you guys for the response! I'll surely take your suggestions into consideration. Kristina - you are totally right about what you've said, I sometimes forget that there are some good points about my dog and now I feel like I really should concentrate on them precisely. We'll get some more exercise and in some time I'll let you all know what the results are... hope the exercises will help my body, too thank you all again Patricia

Kristina - you are totally right about what you've said, I sometimes forget that there are some good points about my dog My dear Patricia, WE ALL DO... ;D The main thing we should do, is first and most important thing: to train ourselves - to think more positive! Have a thorough look on this seminar: www.hpbroadband.com/program.cfm?key=HandlingSeminar It's very, very useful... Of course it will help your body too, we've got planty of time till the World dog show do do some progress both on ourselves and our dogs! Good luck, see you there in Poznan and than we can chat what we did achieve and how was it. Ok?;-) Ohhh, I am so happy to meet you guys! Counting the days already.... ;D Hugs, Kristina

jee, Patricia, Rider looks gorgeous!!! I also think Brera is small and thin and etc, though she eats all her food, and get raw sugar bones, fresh chicken wings etc. But she is very active, very very active, the coat is just perfect, and that lets me decide, she gets good food and good quantities... In the begining I was afraid, but now I am ok, Brera would be fine, but, of course, very feminine and light:) Rider looks excelent for me:)
