Happy Holidays to everyone around the world. I have two weimaraners, MistyRose Dexter and Misty Mtn Slade. She is 3 yrs and he is 2 yrs old. We live in a 2 bdrm cabin snuggled in tall willows 3 miles from town with golden retrievers so I am very interested in long haired weims with our cold weather. I am wondering if long haired weims shed as much as the goldens? Have a Happy Hairy Holiday, this New Year! Cheryl
P.S. MistyRose's name; Dexter is in honor of Judy Colan's mother's maiden name, with permission from Judy. I do not know her personally, but would like to meet her someday...

Hi from Australia!  Welcome to the forum, you will find nice people from all over, with a wealth of knowledge and experience. I have longhairs, and also a boarding kennel, so I have seen a lot of Goldens (and just about everything else, too!) They don't shed ANYTHING like a golden! Shorter hair and less of it. The length of the body hair is 1 to 2 inches only, and although some do, none of the Longhairs I have seen here in OZ have an undercoat. I don't think that is because of climate, as other breeds sure do. (Here I am thinking about the 'tumbleweeds' of hair that blow down the kennel walkway everytime a Husky or Mal come in!!  ) We have both coats, and just love them. Our line of hairies are more laid back than the 'regulars', but that is not always the case! I hope you enjoy your time here, and, I must warn you, we love photos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't help with the shedding thing as my boys are both short haired although Whisper sheds a whole heap more than Solli.

Thanks everyone, for the replies. I've been moving from an apartment to a house so haven't been on until tonight. I'm happy to hear the long hairs do not shed as much as our goldens. My shorthaired weims wear fido fleece wear or Dr's Foster & Smith jackets with a down vest (human's vest) on top when our weather is too cold. Right now its 2 degrees and MistyRose doesn't want her jacket on so I have to keep the outing short or she ducks and rubs and rolls until her jacket is off so I'm constantly telling her "Don't you dare, its your brand new one!"
