In Norway it seems that judges have a hard time distinguishing between the different grey colors. My dog has for example been called "deer grey" , "silver grey" or for the most part just "grey" so I'm not 100% sure what he is. We (the club) are in the process of making a booklet about the Weimaraner to educate the judges about the breed and I'm looking for a good way of describing what the differant colors look like. If any one could help I would be very happy! (Pictures would be appreciated to!)

Wow, this is interesting Ingvild. The Dutch Weims are just grey, according to the Dutch Kennel Club and that's what's stated on our pedigrees. It might be a good idea to contact the Germans about this. They know what they're talking about when it comes to colors.

Mouse grey is more of a brown grey...possibly dogs with lighter pigment may have this toning....
When we talk about peoples hair here being say a 'mouse brown' is a boring lifeless kind of light brown/grey colour.

Gillian Burgoin that doyenne of Weimaraner Breeding in the UK (Ragstone) wrote an extremely interesting article on colour, particularly deer and mouse grey. She rightly pointed out that actually there are quite a variety of colours in mice and so there is a wealth of choice!
Interpretation of the standard is always subjective.
I will try and dig it out and reproduce it here, with her permission
