Does anyone use any sort of temperament / ability testing on puppies? If so what system do they use and is it succesful?
Also does anyone test Adult dogs systematically in a breeding program? Again if you do what system do you use and how is it going?
Thanks in advance!

I did some puppy tests with the litter Mike and although it shows something about the puppies character and hunting abilities, I really think the breeder already knows what the outcome of these tests will be. One thing I did find really helpfull when I decided which pup had to go to which person, was the test with live game. Not only the live game gave me a good impression, but that in combination with a new terrain really gave me a good look at their abilities and their braveness.
I didn't do much in my breeding program, was test the litter at 6 months of age. I went to a friend of mine, hid a caged bird and let the dogs loose, one by one. While mine was worked, all the other pups where house dogs and so you could really see their ability and whether this was a good litter or not. I will do that with this litter too, once they're old enough. Although I don't intend to use a studdog twice and I'm quite sure Daan has more than enough natural ability, I'd love to see it proved as well. I'm doing a two weekly training with 4 out of 6 and it looks promising so far.
