Does anyone know a good website for weimaraners in canada that provides some information on their history - preferably that is not a rehash of the US sites. I am looking for info on a specific dog who would have been a relatively early import but so far all the sites I have visited have only given a rehash of the american info on the weimaraner history and nothing on the Weimaraner in Canada Also does anyone know which kennel club has the reference, OKC?

As with many things in Canada, we tend to be a sort of small branch-office of whatever is going on in the US. Like the US, 99% of Weims here are non-hunting pets. The CKC, is very much a sort of nerdy little brother to the AKC and is of course dominated by show folks. They do make some effort to hold tests and the occasional trial though. The Weimaraner Association of Canada is the national breed club here and is run by nice people whose main interest is the show ring with a bit of agility or obedience thrown in for fun. I am not sure if any are serious hunters but there may be one or two. I am not a member of either the CKC or the WAC. I prefer the German club and NAVHDA. As I get closer to the day I start breeding LH weims however, I will have to give serious consideration to joining the CKC and registering my dogs with that organization. Apparently the CKC will be accepting LH weims as of this summer (LH coat is currently considered a "serious fault"...see above re: US influence). I should probably join the WAC and see if I can raise some interest in the hunting/testing side of club instead of just whinging about it all the time...but I'm just too lazy I suppose. As to the history of the Weim in Canada, I would think that the WAC may be able to put you in touch with someone who could help with you inquiries. The club secretary Shelly Shorrock is a great source of information and a very nice person (she handled my dog Felix to his show championship here. He loved her so!) You can reach her through the club website here: www.weimaranercanada.org

brilliant thanks, I've sent her an email. I am specifically interested in a dog that was an import in canada during the late 1940's early 1950's. The pup of this dogs litter (Woodcocks' Argus) was imported to the UK and bred to Ipley Athene to give the Ipley B litter. This litter features in alot of the UK lines. Woodcocks Argus has been a little bit of a mystery but we managed to find a microfisch with his sire and dam details on along with a CSC/OKC registration number so I am hoping that they will be able to solve the mystery of the dams parents. Her name was Astrid von Goldberg.

As I said you earlier, Asta vom Goldberg must have been a German import. Vom Goldberg was a German Kennel back in that time. That bitch must be born between +/- 1946 and 1950 I guess.

in the kennel club archives. They don't hold data on computer for most of the older dogs especially the original imports you actually have to go and sift through their records. They do have a librarian though that will do the odd one if you ask REALLY nicely I pretty much begged and she gave me what she can but she said it was difficult to find. Gillians book has a note on the ipley breeder: This prefix was named after ipley manor in the southampton area. Mrs Malet returned to Canada.
