I would look for a whelping box of around 4 feet square. Apologies for those who work in cm's ! I would have a 4" lip turned in the box at a height of about 5-6" from the bottom to stop mum squashing puppies. I would also have the sides of the box at around 3feet high with removable front so mum can get out but you can enclose the puppies when they get a bit older. Lynn

My box is 4' x 5' and that worked nicely for me. I also had the "lip" at about the same placement and that worked well. The height of my box is around 2' high and that worked fine for me. By the time the pups can crawl out of this, it's time to put them in a crate with an x-pen all around. That way they can get out to go potty. After 3 weeks, it becomes too much for mom to clean up all the poo, especially if you start helping out with the feeding.

My whelping box is 6' x 4' with a pig rail around it. However, for the last litter, 3 pups I didn't bother with the pig rails but for a bigger litter I definitely do.
My box seems huge compared to other peoples!

How cute!!! But why all teh stuffed animals?? Aren't they dangerous for small pupps? (chewing of an eye or two and maybe swallowing it I mean..)

Oh no, I don't really worry about these things. They haven't killed a single toy. It's just for the fun really. Presents and stuff like that.
