Hi
Apologies if this is the wrong catergory but it's chat nonetheless :-)
I was looking though some old breed books this morning - as you do from time to time :-) The books are quite old now but I came across the criterion to which Weimaraner breeders in Germany have to adhere to.
I was wondering whether anyone here can give a more detailed account on what Weimaraner breeders there have to fulfil before they can register a litter? For example, hipscoring, hunting tests et al. Or indeed if the subject has already been discussed, point me to the thread?
Thanks Daniela

In Germany, you have to hipscore your dog, from the age of 12 months on. Then you have to pass at least a HZP, the Wesentest and have been to a Zuchtschau.

Thanks for your help.
Any ideas on whether the hipscores have to be of a certain grade before they can be bred from?
Also, do you know where I can obtain further details on what the tests involve?

The hipscore has to be B or better (which is A). The HZP is a autumn hunting test. Three judges accompany you and 2 or 3 other people. The dog has to show his capabilities in the field. He has to show he can properly search his grounds, works with the handler and is obedient, he also has to show he's able to use his nose and point. Then there are the tracks. One of a hare or rabbit and the other of a pheasant or duck. The tracks are about 200 mtr's long I think. Then there is the shottest. You send the dog away and 2 shots are fired while the dog is hunting. He is not allowed to show fear. The last part is the waterwork. The dog has to retrieve a duck from the water and a shot is fired over the head of the dog. Again, the dog shouldn't show any signs of fear. Then a lost retrieve from the water. The last part is the most difficult part. They release a duck in the water and when the duck is hidden in cover, you send the dog on the swimming track. It is important, the dog shows that he's able to use it's nose again and is persistent. He has to work on that track or behind the duck once he's found it, for at least 10 minutes. In the end, the hunter shoots the duck and the dog has to bring it to hand. These tests can only be done if you have a hunting licence.

if it helps this is the translation of the HZP: System of evaluation VJP and HZP | Federation youth examination (VJP) Autumn breed examination (HZP) The autumn breed examination The autumn breed examination (HZP) takes place only in the autumn (Septembers, Octobers). To it those managing dogs are certified, which were gewoelft? as with the VJP in the past year and/or starting from 1 October of the previous year. The Weimaraner may not be led, as at other managing dog races possible, on a "age HZP". That is a HZP, where the dog may be led also still in the following year. To the HZP belong the following fan: · Spurarbeit (hare trace), is mostly taken over of the VJP. A HZP with trace is specially written out. · Nose · Search, with Finderwillen, as well as persistent and regular work · Manage · Fuehrigkeit? · Work joy · Water work in addition belongs: · Firing firmness in the water · Losing searches in cover-rich waters · Stoebern with duck in cover-rich waters, this is examined in some Lands of the Federal Republic outside of the examinations · Bring from duck · Feather-game-drag · Hair-game-drag · Kind of bringing · Obedient without and with game contact · Kind of the chase · Statement of the firing firmness This was done on an online translator that will translate the whole site for you with the odd word still in german... www.babelfish.altavista.com is not always reliable but does various languages.
