Hi All, I just finished reading yet another excellent article from the Terrierman's blog "The Daily Dose". It inspired me to update my blog www.chiendog.blogspot.com/If you are not familiar with the Terrierman's blog, I encourage you to check it out at terriermandotcom.blogspot.com/. While many of his articles deal with Terrier-specific topics, there are several that are about breeding working dogs in general. In my opinon, they should be required reading for anyone even thinking about getting an hpr and especially by those who chose to breed them. Here is a link to Terrierman's excellent article on the KC and the AKC. terriermandotcom.blogspot.com/2006/05/inbred-thinking.htmland here is another http://terriermandotcom.blogspot....etics-of-iditarod-and-crufts.html Enjoy!!

what interesting articles he is certainly very open with his views which is refreshing. One of the reasons I like the patterdale terrier is the non membership of the kennel club so you can introduce other lines and dogs to improve your breeding stock. Lovely breed and still a true working dog thankfully not picked up by the handbag brigade although several of the owners that I know have been asked by pet owners to use them thankfully few have taken up the offer and the breed is still relatively unknown outside working terriermen.

You may find this useful or you may not but if you are looking for material on the "sport" of dog shows and want to go a little deeper into the psychology of it all – then read the article Why Do We Show Dogs? by Goran Bodegard (breeder exhibitor, judge, paediatrician, child and adolescent psychiatrist and psychoanalyst.) You may find it too show focused for your liking (I am not feeling your love there, Craig ) but I found the article insightful and thought provoking nonetheless. Amongst other things, he explains in detail, the human needs and wishes behind showing and the risks when people start to select their stock on what happens in the show ring rather than through their knowledge and care for the breed. If you are interested in reading it, I will dig you out a copy.
