Hi I recently had a girl who aborted her puppies. This was more stressful for me I think than her because she just got over it so quickly. Having seen the vet he has given me no reason why she has aborted her puppies, he thinks its one of those things, and to try again another time. She had antibiotics and she seems so fit and well in herself. Has anyone else had this problem? Did you call it a day with her breeding, spay her or have you gone ahead and tried again another time ?
My girl produced one litter before.

This is probably down to some kind of infection. She's had a normal (?) litter before, so I can't see a reason why you shouldn't try again. How far ahead was she btw?

She had one litter before. This litter was about 6 weeks when they were aborted. I have since rang my vet asking for my girl and stud to be swabbed and they will do that next week, just in case of infections. Do you think that is the right thing to do?

I had the same last year. My bitch had an infection so she lost them at 5.5 weeks. She was given a course of ABs & then just as she comes in season I've to give her some Baytril tablets. She is also going to have the herpes vacc & more ABs when pregnant again. I was going to mate this bitch on her next season but didn't but am going to try again later this year. My bitch was not in the slightest bothered by anything, it did not affect her and it only affected me as I'd to let people down who wanted a pup. I have also had a bitch who aborted some of her pups at 6 weeks & carried some more full term This was very unpleasant but she was 100% OK. This same bitch had a normal litter later on no problems.

Thank you everyone, especially claire as that was most helpful info. Just to know that someone else has gone through the same thing. Darcy did have the herpes vaccine last year, but they took it off the market during the year. I am taking her to the vets for swabs to be done just to check her out, and our stud as well. I have never seen this before and it was a bit of a shock to see. I was upset about it all.
