Hi all! I'm sending a hello your way from the rugged coast of Nova Scotia, Canada. I have not yet gotten a Weimaraner but am in the process and think I've finally decided on a breeder. Her pups will be ready to go in late May!!! I'm so excited and I know all you folks here will be able to help me with any problems that may arise!! -Darby

Congratulations Darby! I'm still pretty much wet behind the ears when it comes to weim-parenting so don't expect much sound or knowledgeable advice from me. But I can tell you one thing - you're in for the experience of your life. They are superb companions. all the best rute, miguel and iago (superb companion me!)

Welcome to the board, and congratulations Darby!
You'll find lots of nice people here, and we'll be happy to help you however we can.
May I suggest that you look through the various sections of the board and decide on some things that you would like to do with your Weim. The breed is highly intelligent, trainable, and versatile, and will be well suited to almost anything you decide you'd like to try. But they DEFINITELY do much better when they have a mission to perform.
May I suggest check into the hunting and field trial sections. You don't need to kill anything to hunt and field trial if you don't want to. You and your dog can enjoy field sports without it---it is the hunt and retrieve that is the important part. You can also enjoy shooting sports(skeet or trap shooting), camping, canoeing, cross country skiing, hiking, photography and lots of outdoor activities and your dog will love being there with you. Nova Scotia is a perfect place to be for any of those types of activities.

Welcome, Darby! I'm in a quite similar boat, myself. The breeder we selected just had pups, though, so they'll be ready to go in early May...

Welcome to the forum Darby. There's loads of advice here but don't be afraid to ask if there's something not already covered.

Hi Wetdog I've read up on the suggested sections myself but i'm afraid I'm so ignorant in this matter that I didnt really got to the information most relevant to me (a non-hunter): how can I field train my dog (retrieving and hunting) without actually hunting? Sorry, sounds a bit silly. I've been out in the hunting training fields with my dog, not because I wanted totrain him, but because we were on a walk. He would sniff and run around and flush rabbits and hares out of their holes and then try to catch them as they took off. He was absolutely delighted and t I think he would really enjoy being out hunting. thanks rute Welcome to the board, and congratulations Darby!
