I wonder if you can help me with some info? I have a friend who is emigrating to Aussie soon. She wants to take her weim with her but the pet carriers are coming up with massive problems which is making her think that she will leave him behind. They are moving to Perth but have been told that there is no place in quarantine for him and he would have to travel to Sydney and quarantine there until a place in the Perth area became available, he would then have to his "time" there as well? They have also been told that he would have to "do" 3 months? Also the cost has risen to over £5,000???
Is there anyone who can enlighten me as to the rules of entry for a dog from UK and is there really only one quarantine establishment in the Perth Area?
Any info gratefully received.
Thanks
Lynn

Thought I'd move it to the Export Regulations section so that we have it here (with other matters of the sort) to refer to, if need be in the future.

If you can work it to get the dog into Perth that will save alot of money rather than the dog having to come to Sydney and be shipped back to Perth. I don't know why it would 'be full'... if you do the appropriate testing the dog can only have to stay 30 days in quarantine. See if this link works to the rules www.affa.gov.au/content/output.cfm?ObjectID=C395BB80-E32C-440C-A2DA6F776C4DE9AA&WorkflowID=81E6C04B-AD99-4CDA-BB54293A0FC9F16A&contType=outputsAs for the freight I dare say it would be quite expensive and can only suggest you shop around. See if you can contact a Mr Helmut Bogner who is somewhere in Europe and I am not sure where but he has been the go between for several imports and we are using him to import a lagotto from Croatia and the costs that I have been told about for large dogs are reasonable. A friend of mine brought a Bassett Fauve into Australia last year, and yes, from Britain it is 30 days. We have a forum here with a lot of people from all over Australia, with lots from Perth. I will ask as I am sure someone there will know something. Wendy

Lynn, two people answered me who have both had similar problems. Tell your friends to check around for prices, as this sounds much too high. It is 30 days. If the dog has to be in Sydney, then it would have to do the whole time in Sydney, which is 30 days with the right health checks. Maybe the trip for the dog could be postponed for a little while, it would work out well. One person that answered me said that their dog came out of the Perth Quarantine in great condition and the staff took great care of them. Wendy

Hi is this still an ongoing question? if it is you can send the dog to New Zealand and avoid quarantine arrange a private kennel to look after him or friends there if you have any ,after 30 days you can fly him direct to perth cheaper than paying Quarantinr in Australia .
