This is old stuff, from the spring of 2004, but I thought some might be interested in seeing some of the top field trial contenders in the U.S. For those that don't know, the WCA has 3 regional classics, which is a large field trial run for about 1 week, and each is in a different area of the country. ANd then we have a National field trial every December in Ardmore, Oklahoma. This is the creme of the crop for the Weimaraner field dogs, to be competitive in regionals and nationals. Some of the pictures from these results show the top field Weims of the country, including NFC FC AFC Grau Geist's Lil Gust v Westend (Gus), MH and NAFC FC AFC Gould's Jus Call Me TJ (TJ) who won all her field points in all breed stakes! Chular and Remi are TJ daughters sired by Ryder who is Gus' father. Chular is my puppy Pixy's mother. Well I won't bore you further, if you have questions let me know. I'm sure you will note how different field dogs in the US look from the show dogs. Here is the link www.weim.net/riley/western.htm

Hi Anne! Thanks for sharing that!! I noticed that Because I'm on the breeding committee in Norway I'm on the constant look out for "new blood" that can add to the hunting abilities of the Weimaraners here. We are looking for dogs with very good range and drive. The problem I've had is finding dogs with that are truly great hunters and have at least an OK exterior + good hips. By the look of it Gus was OK, but it is hard to tell form those pictures. If you have seen him I would love to hear your opinion. If you have any tips on what dogs to look at it would be greatly appreciated! I hope to visit America next year and see some field trails.

Just thought I'd mention that it's mostly dogs not bitches I'm looking for. (To import frozen sperm.)

I know Gus well and he will be at the field trial I am secretarying this weekend and next. He is all breed competitve, has tons of range and drive and is very biddable. I recall at that Western that I posted results for, he had a spectacular run and he was "lost" for a while, eveyrone was wondering where he was, until someone spotted him on point about 150 yards out. That dog stood there FOREVER waiting for someone to notice him. He is also very very consistent. But best of all, he is a sweet lovable dog. His father Ryder I have never seen perform but has a reputation as being a fantastic dog as well. Both father and son have won the National Field Championship which is the elite of the elite. Ryder is very small but well constructed. Gus could have probably finished a show Ch, but he's 8 now and won't be shown. He does have some show points. He is a good looking dog as well.
Instead of going on and on (my favorite subject so I can go on and on!!) please email me privately (anne@weim.net) and I'd be happy to share my thoughts on some of the great field dogs. I am keeping my eyes open too for a future mate for my puppy. I can try to get some pictures of video of him this weekend, if I'm not too busy with keeping the trial running.
