Thank you Rute and Tasha---I'm very proud of Heartland. Our coordinator, Gail Orth-Aikmus is a fantastic lady, completely tireless and dedicated in her efforts to help Weimaraners in need, and one of the best friends the breed has ever had. I should add that her long suffering son Brian is the often unmentioned but extremely valuable right hand who does all the grunt work that makes things happen. They are two wonderful people who play a HUGE role in making Weimaraners a wonderful breed to be involved with, I'm very proud to be their friend.
Heartland recently won an award as one of the ten best rescues in the entire USA--and it is well deserved recognition I think. Heartland currently has state recognition from Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska---and is now expanding to Oklahoma and Arkansas.
You can also find some stories and pictures of other Heartland dogs that I have fostered on my website in the section "Rescues and Fosters"---the link is in my signature.

It's true Wetdog, I'd forgotten you were closely connected to Heartland. I visit American Weim rescue sites on regular basis, as part of a never ending search for more information on the breed and its situation around the world. I really admire the rescue organizations' dedication and how hard they fight to give each and every dog a new chance at happiness. I also keep my fingers crossed, hoping that the numbers of "Weims in Rescue" have dropped since my last visit. There are some dogs that I've been watching for almost a year now and they are still in rescue. It makes me so sad...I confess that the senior Weims just cruch me. If I lived in the US I'd probably have gotten myself into trouble and adopted a bunch of them. I'm really happy that Heartland's work was recognized and honoured in this way. I read about Gail and Brian's heroic efforts to bring Maximus back to the land of the living (it was no less, from what I read). Since you are friends with her, please tell her I think she is the best and that she is my hero. Honest. And congrats to you as well, Wetdog. I've read your rescue stories. Those Weims were lucky to have you helping them. rute Thank you Rute and Tasha---I'm very proud of Heartland.
