There is someone in Harrogate who had a home check in early December & they are still waiting to hear if they have been successful.
Even if there is no dog suitable for them at present, out of courtesy they should be contacted to say that. If they are unsuitable they should be told that too.

Weima, If it is the same home as I had checked in harrogate, I have tried to phone several times with no answer. Cant remember if I left any messages tho... I speak with so many people and leave so many messages I dont remember if I did or not. They were suitable but if you cant get hold of them what do I do?
I had a dog for them shortly after they had their home check but as I couldnt get hold of them I let the dog go somewhere else. They have no experience of weims and have a cat and 2 children, she also works part-time so I have to have a dog that is used to all these things. Weims that are used to cats are few and far between.

Mine are not used to cats & never will be 100% as I have no intentions of ever having a cat.
However, when I visit the brother in law he has a cat & my dogs are wary of her & they all just sort each other out. Neither parties wants to go near each other.
If a dog is not used to cats but the potential owner is willing to put the time & effort in then perhaps they should have a chance with a dog. Maybe then there wouldn't be so many dogs in rescue.
I rehomed a bitch once where the new owners had a cat. They ignored each other when the new owner was about but she left them alone one day to come back & find blood everywhere. Thinking the dog had killed the cat, she ran in. It was the cat who had scratched the dog everywhere. After this day, they became the best of friends.

I know many horror stories with cats. Here are just a couple. A guy living about 40 mins from me has 2 Weims and they go around killing his farm cats. Then another one where a friend of mine in the states her bitch killed her cat after she had puppies, must of been protective instinct. My dogs live with cats and get on very well. I have Siamese and British short hair cats. The Siamese are in the house at the moment with 4 day old kittens, and the dogs just ignore them completely, and if they did want to look in the box, Isis would slap them silly. The cats bully the dogs and I have seen the cats, steal food out of the mouthes of the dogs. They even lay and curl up together at night on the sofa or duvets. I think it is down to having a dog along side a cat for a start. If you introduce a Weim to a cat several years down the track, well I think its fair game to it. Rachel

I rehomed a young weim which had lived with cats all his life and so I put him in a home with 2 cats... he killed one within 24 hours and had to leave the home. if people are experienced at introducing dogs and cats then we will give it a go, but it can take some doing if the dog and cat dont get on. Our administrator has cats and took on a rescue weim, she has only ever had rescue weims, and he tried to kill the cat and did over £200 worth of damage to it. She has managed to get them to live together now but this is over a year later than he will now tolerate the cat.
We have to be careful in case a dog kills the cat.

Lynn, I think Ruby will be learning from you and your new puppy, the parts she didn't get to begin with:) How is it going?
Pojken learned sit immediately as soon as I saw him. I teach that first. Then the stay begins, little by little. And the petting while I hold and handle the food dish while they are eating along with the same for raw meaty bones, for no food aggression. Pojken was started in training for scent and search by his breeder:)
He has fit in well with the cats, no problems at all. Does not try to get their food bowls:)

there are ways to introduce cats safely so that no one gets hurt but I would still never leave them on their together if I am not there to supervise. When kittens and puppies are in the house you have to guage your own animals be observant and don't take their normal behaviour for granted.
I've had dogs who've been very good with kittens and cats good with puppies but I never allow either near new borns till they have their eyes opened and are actively walking about.
Bonnie is fantastic with cats but I am still careful with introductions.

Hi all, Ruby is still here..... I took her along to ringcraft class a couple of weeks ago, well... she entered the room, the first dog she saw she went to sniff and next thing she was screaming the place down. The dog, a staffy male adult, had her by the face, it took 2 men to prise open the jaws to release her.... she was bleeding badly, I panicked, a lovely lady came to help me clean her up and calm both me and the dog. When we went back into the room the dog was still there and the owners were looking daggers drawn at me.... they said "your dog shouldnt have stuck its face in my dogs face".... I thought ringcraft was a place to socialise puppies, not introduce dangerous dog to harmless puppies. That b****y dog could have had one of the much smaller puppies (ie the cavalier or yorkie pups) and it would have killed them.
Thankfully it didnt seem to upset Ruby too much as she wanted to play with the red setter pup and the lab pup and then a man said hello to her and she tried to climb on his knee and lick him to death.... She was so intent on sniffing everyone I had to put her back into the car... I dont think she has ever been in a social situation like that before and she was overwhelmed and VERY over boisterous. My little Jodie just laid down and looked at her... I am sure she was wondering "what on earth is she doing" lol.
So Ruby is still here and has taken to barking at about 5.30 - 6am each morning.... I will throttle her one of these days..lol

tasha, its not Ruby who was aggressive, but the pitbull:(
Lynn, I hope she's not too bruised and swollen, nor scarred! She must be very sore and you, too, from the stress! IMO the pitbull should be muzzled if allowed to continue in class w/others!
My daughter who went to Amsterdam w/me has brought home a long time friend who has a 4-5 month old pit pup who is growling at our dogs...we are trying to slowly encourage her to be friendly because it would only get worse the bigger and older she gets, but she is not getting near Pojken as young as he is, just my other 3 who are easy to get along with...of course he's trying to get in there, too...

I know that why I said she's not having much luck... even the staffys are not supposed to be aggressive in the ring. Its not a pitbull that is a completely different breed altogether.

Ruby is left with a small scar on her lip, but otherwise she is OK.
She is coming into season......and my boys think she is wonderful.....lol
BUT she is trying to assert herself with my older girl.... she was edging for a fight yesterday, she having to go into kennels tomorrow as we are going away for a few days.
I desperately need a home for her.
