Hi Carl and welcome to the site. Sorry to hear about your boy, never easy is it. 14 was a grand old age though, lucky you and lucky him finding you. I'm sure you can appreciate that taking on a rehome with kids and cats is not going to be as straight forward as a home with neither but you have the added bonus of being an experienced Weim owner so I really wish you luck. We took on Holly 18 months ago when we lost Abbie, almost 9 years old. She is what I term a re-home rather than a rescue and she has settled in a treat. In fact we dote on this one even more. It was as though Abbie sent us a little gift.

Well never say never and there are so many dogs in rescue at the moment in need of a home. A pup comes with its poblems too, especially with kids of that age. Those needle sharp teeth for a start - I hate that stage.... Maybe an older rescue would suit you. Holly was 5 when we got her and a very chilled girl, used to children but hates cats

Hi With so many dogs in rescue at the moment, their must be a cat friendly one in there. Our dogs love cats but not all Weimaraners love cats, but if you speak to Lynn on this site, I am sure she will help point you in the right direction. Rachel

Hi, I understand that you have been in touch with Margarita and that she has asked Lynne to do your home visit. Normally a home visit can be undertaken in a matter of days but due to your location there are not many members in your area so we have to ask the nearest person and if they have committments then, unfortunately we just have to wait.
We do haev approx 30 weims looking for homes so there will be a dog suitable for you. Please hang in there.

Is it normal for someone who has already owned the breed to have home checks? I would have thought anyone who has had one that lived til 14 yrs was clearly a great owner Just asking!

Thanks Carl. Will bear you in mind.
Yes Claire it is normal to arrange a home visit even if someone has already owned a weim. To be honest I wouldnt pass a home visit for a rescue dog even tho I have had the breed for 15 years. We have to check that the criteria set down by the club is in place, ie a secure garden, that is the main thing. I wouldnt pass as I have only got 4 ft gates at the end of my drive, none of my dogs have ever gone over the gate but I had a rescue here and he was straight over and away down the road with me in hot pursuit. lol that was a sight to see....lol

iam getting a conflict in replies ref home check my garden isn't secure at all we have a small wall but no fence due to our position here in Cornwall the wind rips things like fences to bits our other weim was fine as we always stayed with him when we went out do you think I'm wasting my time going for a re home i think it may just be better for me not the breed to buy a pup ?

I don't mind a jolly down to cornwall... yummy icecream!!
I know you've already been given this advice but these things are taken into account when your home check is done and rescue look at the dogs on their books I'd wait for the home check.
