Audry and I attended a Schutzhund/IPO seminar yesterday in Tallinn, Estonia. It was conducted by a prominent Finnish trainer who has won 7th place in a World SchH championship. The weather was nice, and the seminar was pretty awesome too!! I learned a lot, and so did my 4 1/2 months old non-German Shepherd who spent the day in the back of a car watching the dogs work. She was REALLY good and never protested to being left on her own. We also went for a walk in the town later, and I also took her out and played with her when I could. She jumped up and showed REAL interest when a dog passed the car carrying the "prey" (sleeve)!!!! If nothing else, at least she got LOTS of socializing, strange people and dogs (and she wasn't confused AT ALL, for a second), and got to see the beautiful city of Tallinn. ;D Unfortunately, there was a breed snob present too who told me you can't do Schutzhund with a Weimaraner, but I guess we'll just have to train Audry and then show him. Some people just don't get it that others MIGHT like different breeds than his, and want to do exciting and interesting things with them too. Too bad because he is apparently one of the most knowledgeable people in this neck of the woods and I was hoping to train with their group. But all in all, we had GREAT fun!!!! Hope you all enjoy the pictures.

Audry, watching from the back of a car. I should also add that MOST dogs present there worked in their prey drive (and the trainers were trying to take them into the aggression/fight stage) - wagging their tails and just being happy to grab that cloth/toy/sleeve. If we do it, I would not attempt to go past the prey drive stage, and it would still be GREAT fun.

Setting looks lovely Irena. Very nice Dobermann too. There is a lot of debate about Weimaraners and manwork, but I think in the UK a lot of people don't understand that you can train the dog to see the sleeve as a retrieve article / fun thing. I watched a dog trainer encouraging his Dobe to retrieve a sleeve and she would wander around with it, wagging her stumpy tail. Duncan used to be the 'robber' in the manwork display at our old club, lots of fun. It was a shepherd that did the manwork though. He had to shoot a starter pistol 'at' the dog, wave it around, shout at the dog, and pull on the arm until told to stay still, when the dog would release him. He was then 'disarmed' by the handler - great fun, good times. Nina and Jensen

I really don't get it, that people think Weimaraners can't do this. They were originally bred to be "Mannscharfe". I did the test with Daan, and she earned max. points for the test. And since it's easy to control, I'm very happy with these results. I'm never afraid, walking my dogs, all alone in the dark. Irena, love your piccies!!!

Whoever told you that you cannot compete in Schutzhund with a Weimaraner or in fact any breed is completely wrong..........................

Thank you guys! Glad you enjoyed them!
Smokeybear, he didn't mean it like I am not allowed to, more like it was "inappropriate". I however think he was just being jealous that Weims could hunt and do this, and his breed could ONLY do this. ;D
Thinking back now, it seems to me that it is very futile to even debate about this subject with anyone who does not understand the concept. We did use to have a sport here when the dogs were taught that the human was their enemy, but those times are long gone.

Nice pictures. And the Weimaran can do the SchH. Here in Holland only it isn't allowed to do the Manwork with the Weimaraner..... There is a list here with breeds who are allowed to do it here. I don't know if that is in other countries the same?

The WUSV is open ONLY to GSDs however there are World Championships which include all other breeds.
In the UK, Germany, US etc there are Dobermanns, Border Collies, Bouviers de Flandres, Rottweilers, Belgian Malinois, Beauceron, Dutch Herders, etc etc etc who compete in Schutzhund.

I trained my first Weimaraner "Dona" in 1982 for Schutzhund and she past two parts of the test in very high score, she failed on the "hold and bark" part because she was to "frindey"....... we loved to work and we did it 6 years!
