We didn't shoot anything, but boy was I amazed....
I took Audry for a walk yesterday morning. We were in the woods and I noticed a bird which my dictionary says is called "jay". It is common in the woods here. So there is this jay sitting very low on a pine tree and I tell Audry "find it! birdies!" - something she already knows I think! And she looks at me like "you must be kidding, we are in the forest, not in the fields, there CAN'T be any birdies??" So she doesn't go into any search or anything. Then I notice that the jay who is apparently teasing us has jumped off the tree trunk and is sitting on the ground, and then jumps up on another tree again, so I direct Audry to where he was sitting a minute ago. She started sniffing the area casually and in a couple of seconds caught the smell of him where he was sitting a minute ago. BOY DID SHE START SEARCHING!!!!! Her whole body language was saying "I know, I know, NOW I know what you mean, you are right, he is here, somewhere, oh where is he, let me sniff here!!!" I was fascinated to see how this clumsy relaxed puppy that was looking at me with the eyes full of disbelief changed into a fast hard working hunting dog in a matter of seconds!!! Of course I praised her, and we had to go on unfortunately because he flew away after teasing us a little more (Audry never did get to see him). But she was sniffing BEAUTIFULLY with her head and nose way up in the air, just like a picture from a hunting textbook! It was just amazing to see how her instincts kicked in and she changed from a cute puppy into a serious "hunting dawg" so quickly!!
Sorry if this is not so serious, but just wanted to share. I was really impressed!
