I remember when I was young, we had 2 weimaraners. A big male pushing 100lbs named Rebel and a 60lbs female named Liberty. Awesome hunters great teamwork. When I was young my dad would not let me use a gun by myself so I would walk our land with a BB gun, which didn't matter because I would still bring back pheasants dad would ask me how I got these I told him the dogs caught them. I think he thought I was lying until my uncle wanted to hunt our land and use our dogs, he came back with his limit, my dad said looks like you did good, he told him I didn't fire a shot the dogs caught them all, he was pissed but I thought it was funny. But the coolest thing I have ever seen it was kind of like watching a movie. It was dark outside accept for the light comming from our machine shed just enough to see Liberty I was not sure where Rebel ran off to so we kept walking. I walked until I seen something big in front of me. At first I thought it was a badger, thank God it wasn't. It was a big coon though and I was young so it kind of scared me. Just then Liberty started barking and jumping back and forth the coon just faced up my dog I just kept thinking my dog is going to get hurt or killed. Just then out of the shadows came Rebel "like a true Grey Ghost" from behind the coon grabbed the coon by the neck shook it twice and it was all over. Just thinking about that night gives me goosebumps still. Those 2 dogs Rebel and Libby are the reason I will only have Weimaraners we have had Labs, Huskees, Pit, Rot, Rat Terriers, and those two dogs were heads and tails above the rest in my opinion. Sorry about the long story just wanted to share it.

Hiya, and welcome to the board! That IS an amazing story!! So reminded me of a movie we watched a couple of years ago, "Where the red fern grows" (that one was about Coonhounds though).
So do you still have Weims?

Thank you, that is a good movie and good book, yeah I guess it was kinda like that I don't know it is hard to discribe plus it was about 20 years ago, man makes me feel old.
The best thing about all of this. My wife grew up with labs and now all she wants is weims too. I told here the only way we are getting a dog is if it is a weim so she has converted.
yeah I had a grey for a year named Bronx awesome hunter natural, me and my best friend who owns lab was so amazed how good Bronx was with little training wanted to bring his dog around him to try and learn from Bronx. We went on vacation Bronx stayed with some people and got hit by a car sad. But a week ago my brother bought me a Blue Weim his name is Vader, very smart.
That is a question I have for someone who might know this is my first Blue Weim is there a difference beside color of the coat?

No differences I can tell, among the ones I've seen. There are people who will tell you that blues are more suseptable to skin problems, but I haven't seen it so far. I used to have Doberman's for many years, and the same stories about the blues circulated about them also--but I had all colors including blues(black, red, blue and fawn are now accepted colors). The standard was changed to accept the colors as they are now. I never saw any difference in skin problems between the colors in my lines. I have a feeling that those stories were started by people who wanted to convince people to buy "their" colors.

My family bred Min Pins since I was 16 and we get blues too. Blue and tan, but a lot lighter than Weis. The thing with blues is a form of alopacia (spelling??) as in, hair loss. We had a pet that came from a friend, she had hair on her head, legs and part of her tail. The rest was blue leather. They start off like all the rest and then slowly lose it. My understanding is the Weimaraner is the only breed that has blue, that does not get this, and they don't know why not. If that is so, it is another mystery that will be solved by DNA and genetic markers! Wendy
