Puppies with their trophies Three of the puppies from Ellie's litter this year, Brisa, Bellatrix (Bella) and Bowie were enrolled in a field training event sponsored by the Weim club in France (CABW). It was a wonderful weekend event that took place in the game resort “La Toupirie” in Les Landes (Southeast of France). The pups were enrolled in a special field training for puppies called “La nez dans la plume” or “Nose in the feathers.” This was part of a larger event of field training and testing. Bowie lead the first day with good, steady points on Quail. By the 2nd day, Brisa and Bella were also showing very promising points. Brisa was very steady and Bella showed good motivation and authority in hers. I was already very pleased with the weekend overall. The pups had a great introduction to birds, they were surrounded by gun shots and showed no concern, it was a wonderful socialization event, and they all showed promise. The 2nd day ended with a flourish. M. Lamourcade, a gentleman hunter, generously offered to take the puppies out with his seasoned hunting bitch to work partridge. I’m delighted to report that my little Bellatrix found and pointed a partridge, they shot it over her and she retrieved it to hand! She also pointed another after that. After, she went out again and M. Lamourcade and M. Bouron worked her in some cover where she found another partridge, held her point and they shot it over her. She was on her way to retrieve it when another dog got to it first. This from a 4 1/2 month old puppy and on a hot, windless day. I also heard that Bowie went out with his “dad” and found and pointed a pheasant for him. I was very encouraged when the trophies were given out that the judges stated that Bella showed the most promise of the day and urged me to get her the training she will need to fulfill her potential. All the puppies were given trophies as encouragement. I have a feeling though that those trophies won’t be on the shelf alone for long!

I see pups liked their trophies! ;D Yes, they seemed to enjoy the attention. I'm very pleased with the pups. I got videos by email today of another puppy with a very nice point. So far, 7 of the 10 pups are going to be hunted. Yay!

Why thank you, Cheryl. Actually, I have news to report on the puppies in the litter. Saturday, we were at the yearly club meet and field trials/test in the beautiful region of Sologne in France. Bonnie had already received her TAN at 5 months and was selected as a finalist for the Challenge Nationale Christian Foubert. She took 2nd Place! The judges highly praised her drive and potential. Bella (another Bella in the litter) took her TAN at just 7 months. My Bella(trix) tried for her TAN - she had great drive and passion, but bumped a pheasant. It happens to the best - so we'll try again next year.

Congrats Leslie. I was planning on coming as well, but since my bitch didn't do too well last season, I decided against it. Maybe next year!

It is so warm here at home, I've been in Fairbanks w/classes for 5 days and it is running -22 below zero and since we get to go home early today, I'm really wanting to out and ptarmigan hunt with Bully:) He's real birdy, more than Misty & Slade. Going to go wake up my son and start tromping Leslie, you're right, sometimes its too hard to contain our/themselves or stay on track:)
