Greetings to all.
At our training this week Falko was very naughty and mischievious. It seems that Falko (who is now a bit bigger than Calli) has got it into his head that he is the 'big shot' dog. I believe it is because he is very spoilt and chooses to be naughty. LOL ;D Anyways.. we did some training, he demonstrated how well he can stay "blipe" which he does great at. Wolfgang was pleased, and Falko also showed that he can heel and go by my feet 'foos' when he has the desire to do so. Wolgang of course tells me he must always go by feet and that Falko is still a little pup.
We discussed the english word 'stubborn' and looked it up so we use the german one, which unfortuantely I can not pronounce. Wolfgang laughed and said it is because he is a boy... Falko did much better when they were off lead this time and it only took him about 10 seconds to respond to my call and come to me. (wolfgang was counting LOL) This is better than the turn and run behavior he has exhibited in the past.
Falko turned 6 months this Monday so the puppy stage I believe is in full swing. I remember when my other weim was a little older and he decided that he was going to challenge and see if he could be the 'leader'. Falko is like a little kid in the candy store. If he whines in the store for the candy do you give it to him or let him throw his tantrum or take him out of the store?
My homework is to work on the platz with the meter lead and have hm lay down every few feet. I am to either use the word 'platz' or sometimes Wolgang has used 'halt'. I am to raise and drop my open hand from above my head to my leg in a down position ( it is the right hand)
Information you guys may be interested in. I saw the LH pups that were born about 3 weeks ago. There are 6 of them and they are beautiful. I went with Wolfgang to the home of the man who owns the dog. The pups had just opened their eyes within the last day and the bitch was so friendly. I was allowed into the whelping area, she was a sweet dog, she did not growl or present any threat. I am a stranger to the man and his bitch yet she was calm. The pups have homes with hunters and they will be going there after 8 weeks or so. After we saw the pups we all talked about the German Philosophy of weims. I am now more convinced that this way of thinking is their philosophy and that it has been carried on for many generations. This man was so matter-of-fact with the way he described the reason why weims are hunters, He said that man and dog are together for one reason that is the hunt. He said that the dog can not be without the hunt and that the hunter must use his dog for that purpose.
We discussed how in America hunting is slowly disappearing and that there are now laws against some places to hunt and what you can hunt with your dog. He wanted to confirm with me that I understood that the lessons that I am going through now with Wolfgang are just a part of my long committment (2 years) to my dog. The 2 years is how long it takes to train him in everything. And for him to pass his tests. We also talked about breeding and how important it is for the Klub to know what dogs are breeding and to what other dog. They frown upon open breeding and that is why they have so many tests and a hard course for training. The VJP for our district will be held the 21st of April near the city of Regensburg. If I don't have another committment, I wil go with Wolfgang, he is the judge for it, and see how it looks.
I am very curious as to how the dogs will perform and how they have been trained, In the meantime, I am getting the boy ready for his training and possibly a show. I am hoping he won't embarrass me too badly. BTW can I just videotape him doing all the right things here in my yard and send it?? LOL
Take care..
