We started early in March with Ginger at this course as 1st years... The course is organised by the Sint Hubertus assosiation, thé Belgian huntingclub for all gundogs. We actually didn't know that there started a course, but through friend hunters, we thought we give it a go, that must be so interesting...
We started with 22 different gundogs first years. Most of them are young dogs, and you can imagen, that most of them aren't trained as they only go hunting with their master, and doesn't know obedience. The first weeks, the training was a mess... Dogs running away, didn't want to come back, if the gunshot got off, all dogs runned, even if there was no game... It was so messy... Of course, all these dogs don't do competitions like FT or huntingtest, they are only used for the practical hunting.
Anyhow, this course is so different as what we know, also difficult, as for example, a living duck is thrown into the water, and 10 dogs must retreive at the same time on command one duck. You can imagen this sight is not commen.... ;D ;D
First weeks, Gin didn't well... She is not used to all this jelling people, because all hunters wissled, shouted, were angry... to have their dog back. In first, I thought, OMG, this is a weerd course It's not usual to have such behaviour.
Well, time passed, and you saw the dogs changing. This course is specified for gundogs who do only practical hunting, so the "real" situations are set in scene.
Anyhow, yesterday we had our last "test". It was surching for pheasants and pointing. So we went (Dorit-Cummel and me and Gin) to the fields with the instructor. The game didn't want to let them find, we had to go to different fields.
Gin tracked a hare and pointed absolutely fantastic 4 young pheasants with their mother. I couldn't get near her that fast, as the field wasn't easy to get trough (high vegitation), so she flushed by herself and jumped... ;D But I was happy, she pointed very long time ... Cummel did also well. He pointed on a group of pheasants who were hided just next to the road. Very funny You don't expect a group sitting there !
During the weeks, we had to do different examns, all different facets of hunting. It was real stressy, I must say. You also know, that one day isn't always the other for the dogs.
We will only know in January what the points of our diploma will be But ! We know we have a diploma, because only 6 !!! of the 22 gundogs are good enough to receive the diploma ! The total must be more than 75/100 ....
Wow ! We are so happy
Up to the second year !!!!
