We decided we weren't busy enough so short for our leave to Scotland, so entered 3 of our 4 dogs in a field trial today. Far, far away from where we live. Due to the heavy traffic, it took us 3 bl**dy hours to get there..... and that is abnormal for us, lol!
Anyway, we went to the open class first with both Barak and Daan. Barak had some serious arguments with a pheasant and couldn't come to a point. Daan did well for the first 5 minutes and then she had enough of it. End of the open class for us.
So of we went to the youth class.
First it was Callas' turn, Billy's sister. Both Callas and Marjolein (owner of Callas) did very well. It was Marjoleins first trial and I am impressed to see a novice handler handle a dog like she did. Callas also did her work properly. She hunted well, despite the heavy beets, but no pheasants were found.
Billy was after her and I was impressed. He quartered very good and within 5 minutes he made this excellent point. It was on the other side of a ditch so it took a while for me to get there so the pheasant took its chance and left the scene (grrrr!!). Billy noticed that and put his nose on the gruond and it almost went wrong big time. I really thought he was going to flush the bird without another point. But thank goodness suddenly he started hunting again and again he made this fabulous attack for the bird and pointed.
This time the bird stayed, but Billy didn't want to let it go again. That's why he decided not to wait for me and he flushed the bird.
I had to continue my run since my time wasn't up yet, but he kept on hunting properly.
At the end of the day it turned out Billy was awarded the one and only qualification of the day, of both the youth and open class. He was graded with a good and a first price.
I only entered him because Callas was entered and I didn't expect nothing from him actually.
I am so happy with the results of today. Not only the qualification, but the fact the pups I bred actually know what hunting is and that they're capable of earning ft qualifications as well!!!!!
