Good morning everyone, Thank you so much for welcoming myself (Felecia and Snoopy A. Dennis) and my baby to your family. We are really happy to find a site like this because we just moved back to Michigan almost two years ago. I was stationed Upstate New York and there were about 5 weimy altogether in the little town including on base. And moving back home it seems like he is the only one here now(with a full tail at that). People ask me all the time, "is he a blue pit bull, or lab"? Or they ask me "is he a hunting dog"? But they all always say "Oh he is so pretty, and look at that coat"! Snoopy has gotten use to it, because he just yawns and rolls his eyes as if to say " Yeah,y yeah I know I am handsome and all, but wake me when you start talking about food"! Do your dog have a personality that leave you wondering was he or she human in another life? And can actually talk? I mean he actually talks with his mouth, and eyes. And if you do not understand that then he will show you. I was when I first figured it out. I had been told they were really smart, but wow! lol So if you all have anything to share please feel free, because learning from him is an adventure everyday he is in my life. Snoopy, and I have been together since he was 8 weeks. He will be four this July. He is truly my baby, and there is nothing that I would'nt try to do to make him feel loved always. But I do have a question how can you really tell there colors between blue and silver? I have had one or two owners tell me he is blue, and there were other who said silver. But his birth certificate claims blue. On a clear sunny day he has a purple tint to his coat! Just curious

Hello and Welcome. Weimaraners can be too clever sometimes, and yes the way you describe Snoopy is just "Typical" Weimaraner. As for the colour, are you in the UK or somewhere else. I would say their is a distinct difference between blue and silver grey. If you look at the banner, their is a puppy sitting with a bird in its mouth. He or she is silver grey.

Rachel Mamaboy is in the states.
Blue is not a recognised colour either here or in the USA. Although some people are trying to get "blue" a recognised colour here in the UK, many more are trying to stop it. You cannot show a "blue" weimaraner.
The breed standard here in the UK states Silver/grey or shades of grey from mouse to roe. (or words to that effect) I have always registered mine as silver grey.
ANyway welcome from me and my 5 weims.

the blue can be hunted just not shown basically because the colour is a fault.

Lynn or Tasha, maybe you can answer this one.
If the blue is accepted by the Kennel club does this mean that blue can be shown in the United Kingdom ?

They are still not classed as a correct Weimaraner in the UK. Sorry to rock the boat but they can be shown. In the same way that any Weimaraner which deviates from the standard can be shown, the judge would have to weigh up the faults and merits.

mmm interesting you should say that Daniela as I've only just had a conversation with someone from the KC telling me they couldn't As you know the breed clubs are trying to stop blues from being registered and was told that they were registered because of the reciprocal agreement but that they couldn't take part in a KC event I give up! ;D

I have answered this before, in-depth. I will see if I can find my thread on the subject.

I believe you, in fact more than I do some people I speak to at the KC I'll keep quiet now Not sure how long for tho' ;D When you think about it, it is totally logical. The standard does not have any instant DQs and whether it conforms to the standard or not, is a matter for the judge. How many dogs do you see around that don't conform to the standard in one way or another? Yet they can still be shown.

Welcome to the board Felicia.
Snoopy sounds like a great dog.
What you describe sounds to me like a very very light blue.
As you can see yup, there's a lot of controversy over the blue/gray issue, both here and elsewhere. To me personally it is a non-issue, I like them both. The arguement over blue or gray is a lot like going to a car dealer and finding the perfect car, great engine, good condition, good price etc. etc., and then not buying it because it was blue instead of red. Sort of silly reasoning if you ask me.

Thanks for that. I think I am no wiser. ha ha. I hope the clubs will clarify this all for us at some point or another once the final out come has been achieved on this.
I know we talked about this once before, but I was thinking to myself, if the KC register the dogs as blue, then surely they can be shown. But if the blue is a mis mark it cant be placed then ? Even if its construction is better ?

But if the blue is a mis mark it cant be placed then ? Even if its construction is better ? If it is a mis mark, it seems logical doesn't it ? For instance, the best possible proportioned border collie that is mainly white, wouldn't be placed either, I guess ...
