It appears that the terms "Winner" and "Champion" are sometimes used interchangeably, and I'd like to know what it really is supposed to be like.
To the best of my knowledge, a dog can be a champion of a country, or an International Chamion. I understand that to become an Int Ch the dog does not necessarily have to become a champion of several countries. Example: a dog is a Latvian and Finnish Ch, goes to Greece for an International show, gets his CAC towards the Greek championship (of which he needs, say, three, even if he is already a Ch of his own country), and gets a CACIB towards his Int Ch. So once he gets the other 2 or 3 (?) CACIB's in other countries, he becomes an Int Ch, but he does not become a Greek Ch unless he collect the CAC's necessary for the Gk Ch.
Am I correct so far? ;D
Soooo, a dog is a champion of one or none or so-and-so many countries, and he becomes Best Dog or Best bitch in his/her breed at a European Winner (aka European Dog Show, EuroDog) held in one of the European countries. He does NOT however become a "European Champion" - he becomes a European Winner, is that right? Much in the same way as there is a show held in Latvia called "Latvian Winner 2003/4/5/whatever year" - the dog does NOT necessarily become a Latvian Champion if he doesn't have enough LV CAC certificates yet - but he becomes a Latvian Winner, by becoming Best Dog or Best bitch at that particular show.
Same with the World Winner - the dog (champion or not) goes there and becomes Best Dog or Best bitch in his/her breed and thus becomes World Winner 2003 or 2005 or whichever year. He does NOT become a World "Champion", unless I am heavily mistaken?
ARE there actually such terms as "European Champion" or "World Champion" in conformation shows in the FCI system?
One last example is Balt Ch vs Balt W. Balt Ch is when the dog is a Ch of all three Baltic states = Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. As soon as the dog finishes his last Ch in these countries, the owner can apply for registering the Balt Ch title on this dog. Baltic Winner xxx(insert year), however, is obtained at one of the international Baltic Winner shows which are held in LV, LT or EST respectively, in a different country every year. Balt Winner 2004 was in Latvia, Baltic Winner 2005 this year was in Lithuania, and so on. So any dog that became Best bitch or Best Dog in his/her breed at any of these shows, automatically became BaltW'04 or BaltW'05 (depending on which show he attended). But he did NOT become a Balt CH.
