I am really interested in hearing about the Weim situation in other countries. I may have some ideas but they might be rather faulty and based only on the little knowledge I have. I am interested in how long have Weims been known and bred in your country, where did the first Weims come from; subsequent imports and from which countries; what do people do with Weims - hunt, train in Obedience, just pets? Do you have to be a hunter to obtain a Weim puppy?
I'd be thankful for any input. I will also post about Latvia in a little while here.

The first Weimaraner imported to Israel in 1975 from Germany,i do not know the breeder name,
the first litter was in 1980,second +third litters were on the same day 18.3.1982 . 22 puppies in one day !!!!
This was the reason why a few owners from those two litters includ me made thire mind to establish a club and in 1983 we established the Wiemaraner club of Israel.
One of the member imported from England a very nice male that was the sire of most of the puppies in Israel for a few years , this male was very very agressive to peoples and had a hipdisplasia, we had alot of wiems with hips problem and so agressive that the owners gave tham to the army ,
We changed the rulls for breeding,a male alowed to breed only with A hips score and a female B,
so we started to import Weims from USA and we had one from Nederland name After nani's First Israelian Connection that died very young from a snake bite !
So most of the Weimaraners in Israel came from American lines,
We do not hunt in Israel ,it is not so popular sports and we do not have many fileld that we can hunt so the first hunting test that we had was two years ago ,
we invited a judge from Hungary and 3 Weimaraners pastes the test, My Love Camelot's Dorian Gray that was 10 years old and got 96 points from 100 ! he died 4 months later, Zippo past the test too with 92 points and Zipoo's son past it too, I hope that we will have another test soon ,
This is all for now

I missed the FCI-standard on your website Sally, or have I missed it. And is it true that your breed standard is the same as the FCI-standard?

I also think that you could add Sylvia's Vidar and Foster vom Weipen to the LH-carrier list.

We have about 280 Weimaraners in Norway. Around 30 of these are LH. We share most of the lines that are in Sweden. The lines are mainly German, but Kennel Hella imported semen from Sally's (Sj's) Bromhund American Express. He sired two litters and his puppies have done extremely well in the field and in the show ring and the have a sound temperament. He also brought the LH gene to Norway! So "Ziggy" has been a fantastic addition to our lines.
We have been spared any major health issues. Only 3 or 4 dogs out of 70+- have been diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia the past 10 years. Most breeders focus on "dual dogs". Dogs that excel both in the show ring and in field trials /retrieving / tracking. We have quite strict breeding regulations that include a comprehensive temperament test. The breeding regulations also have a strong focus on the Weimaraner as a working dog.
