I have read on another board that Queensland Australia has banned Duck and Quail hunting. Yet another blow to our hobby. The people against us are so well organised it is scarey. They have big names and finances supporting them. What we need is some big names behind us to help push our message. Any ideas?

Apparently in the UK the anti-hunt lobby (foxhunting) have moved on to be the anti-shooting lobby. Don't know about Oz but in the UK there is a movement called BASC, which is an umbrella organisation for those involved in shooting, coursing (hunting hares and rabbits using hounds and a lamp), and fishing - is there nothing like that? Could the Kennel Club not back you, or is there a fishing association - as they will undoubtedly be next...

I live in NZ which at the moment is free of this ludicrous legislation, however it is on its way. We have an Animal Welfare Bill being prepared for submissions and another Welfare Bill already passed thru to Select Committee stage which will rear its ugly head again after the elections in Sept. The world has gone mad. These activists are so powerful, they prey on emotions, get money behind them. What we need is a world wide organisation to fight them and be coordinated in our approach. I hear there is one in USA against bad legislation, now I need to find it and try and get it more widespread.

I think here in NSW was the first state to ban hunting several years ago. You can get into trouble if you have rabbits or foxes, as you are supposed to deal with vermin, but if you shoot a duck, you get INTO trouble. The groups here that do a lot of this is PETA, or its clones. Aussies are far too laid back (complacent, lazy, you pick your word) to do too much protesting about anything. The animal rights groups, which the RSPCA is a big part of, are way too organised. That is how we lost the tail docking war. Ah, it'll never happen, well it did. And now it is happening with Breed Specific Legislation. There are local areas in Queensland that have breed bans in place. We just all hope that the madness doesn't spread across the Tasman. Wendy
