I have been chatting to someone from rescue today and they are desperate to raise funds. We have a lot of weimaraners in need in the UK and its getting very costly, and we haven't got enough to cover the costs.
So how have I got involved. I suggested we could perhaps do a charity book / booklet printed for as little as possible and sold 100% in aid of rescue. As I suggested it, I was asked to try and put the idea about a bit.
HOW CAN YOU HELP: I think that it would be a good idea to get as many contributions as possible from as many different people as possible, ranging from your favourite dog treat recipe, to a chapter on dogs in your country, or a poem dedicated to your Weimaraner, past or present. A story on how you work your Weimaraner, or if your dog has a special job, anything would be appreciated. Or perhaps you have a miracle story, or your top 10 or 100 tips for training. Or even, a chapter on Weimaraners in your country, and their history - for example, Ilana, I think a lot of English people would be amazed at there being only 2 litters a year bred in Israel..........
So, if there is anyone that can help, please let me know. I'm sorry to be a bit vague on this, but I only came up with the idea an hour ago.

Would it not get more coverage if the breed clubs sponsored it....?
As all the members of the breed clubs receive quarterly newsletters in the UK you would have access to 3000 people immediately...............
Just write in with the idea.

Wow Nina, that is a grand idea! Would make a pretty thick book I'm sure!!! But a great idea nevertheless. I have Weimaraner Ways and it has more focus on the US, of course, so are you thinking the main part would be about Weims in the UK? I bet there is a lot to say about that, if people contributed. And then about the rest of Europe and the world as well? Maybe there could be a catalogue (not necessarily in this book) with the breeder's profiles which they would pay for to have included? Like, sort of extended ads, and pictures of their stud dogs and also bitches, etc? That may or may not be a good idea, I don't know, it is just that I know a few breed clubs here who publish similar catalogues. I don't know though how big the interest would be, of potential advertizers and also potential buyers. Actually, when ideas are concerned, I often rely on Mr Wetdog, as HE is the person to always come up with brilliant and very daring ideas. I have a feeling he too may have something to contribute to this topic.

I hope to get as many article ideas first, to give a framework for the book / booklet. I was then hoping to put a couple of things together and take a draft mini-version to the clubs, with an offer of taking it further, having it printed, and selling it themselves to members, at shows etc, oh and Allyson, can you contribute a page or so ?? - I think you have a lot to offer re feeding and training. I am quite happy to receive help from anyone offering....
I am not hoping to produce an expertly put together best seller, just a book of things that the majority of owners might enjoy reading for the cost of a few pounds. If I put it straight to a club as a proposal, then it has to be debated, voted on etc and accepted or rejected. If I have a couple of home-printed versions for people to look over, it will make it easier for them to visualise what they are signing up to print and sell, and I can also re-jig things if they suggest improvements.
Irena, we have 'yearbooks' in this country that the clubs produce, where the book is full of pictures of dogs from kennels who have paid to advertise there, and I don't think I could compete with those. If anyone wanted to advertise in it though, I don't see why they can't for a donation towards printing costs / rescue.
If the idea turns out to be expensive, it will not work, and Rescue will not benefit, but if it does, then I'll be happy in doing my bit.

I am not hoping to produce an expertly put together best seller, just a book of things that the majority of owners might enjoy reading for the cost of a few pounds. Got it!!!! Now I see - I like your idea more and more! Could it be Weim stories too, then? Mr Wetdog has written a few short pieces about his girls and fosters too. Also, I can ask Peggy (who has stopped coming to our board, must be really busy) in Oregon USA if maybe she could write up and donate an article about her Penny Lane who is a Weim service dog to her autistic son. (Their website is here - www.parentingyourcomplexchild.com/ServiceDog.html and www.lighthouseparents.com/ServiceDog.html - Penny Lane was fostered by Mr Wetdog who thought she had qualities that would make her a good service dog, and he was right!) There is also a service Weim in Holland, Marjolein may tell us more about that. Sorry, I'm just throwing ideas about what I think would be interesting for such a booklet. There was also a girl on this board in the UK whose dog competes in K-9 sports etc; and maybe we could find one that does heelwork to music? Just to show what else Weims can do besides hunting and showing. I could see how this booklet could easily turn out to be not only entertaining but also inspiring to many Weim owners. GREAT idea. Also, IF it is not too expensive to make, maybe a few stickers/decals could go with it, something about "Weims on Board" (cf. Baby on Board) etc.? I've always liked "tangible" things that would depict my passion for this breed.

That's the type of thing I'm looking for. Something inspiring, interesting and yet something simple. I read about Penny Lane, and her bond with her owner is the type of thing that captures a Weim. (Penny Lane, the place in Liverpool, is less than 10 miles from my home, just a useless fact I had to add - I won't put that in the book though - lol).
Keep those ideas coming Irena - I am open to any suggestions...

Weim humour!! Short funny stories that other owners could read and relate to. Also funny pictures of the "caught in the act" kind! OK, when can we start sending them in? LOL
Also maybe something about the qualities of the Weimaraner in a humorous way.
P.S. OH BOY, I have JUST the kind of thing you might like!!! This was on another board:
Answers, by Mr Wetdog:
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
We'd have to ask Mr Wetdog if he would not mind, in case you wanted to use this. LOL

I think this is a very good idea Nina. It might be an idea to put some basic training things in there as well, especially if your thinking about selling it to peeps who're taking on rescue dogs. I'm not sure how I'd be able to help though. When I think of something, I'll be more than willing btw.

Thanks for that guys.
Mar you can help - I'm sure anyone who had a Weim in the UK would love to hear about working l/haireds in Holland, and bloodtracking......
And Irena has suggested quite a few things already.
I'm hoping to put things in there that will appeal to those with a rescue or a puppy or adult - just a good read really.
Training is a good idea - would get someone from UK to do a bit about working trials, and someone to do a bit about agility etc. And then there's Penny Lane - Mr Wetdog recognised her potential, so I'll try and ask him about how he did that etc. Lots of ideas, just need to start doing the legwork now.
Thanks again, Nina and Jensen
