Maybe you would allow us to get to know you a bit...you hunt, you have at least one weimaraner or had one...you like the "old style" which we may or may not have the same idea of, stockier? Larger? Built to last? If so, some breeds that are still such, are having health problems due to not really built to last. A friend has gone thru too many rottweilers too soon imho because he too wants the bulkier, sturdier rotts but exercises them too often so are nearly useless and in pain so he puts them on rimadyl which also decreases their life span...
How many weims do you have? Ages? Gender? What would you intend for the young male? Breeding? And whom would the intended dam be? Not to sound all important here, but wanting to get to know a bit, as I live a subsistence lifestyle in the far north apart from "the world."
From your few posts, all we know is you would like a dog, you are or have been a game guide, and not much else in regard to your ideas or keeping of your hunting mates. There are people in your part of the world who have wonderful weims but have you sought to form any sort of friendship or trust with them? I am envious of some of their weims;)
Are you willing to travel to pick up a dog once you form a trusting relationship, or just want the dog shipped? We do not know your thoughts, plans, nor husbandry of canines so cannot feel comfortable...if it is your intent to bypass this all, there are people in the USA who only breed to ship and sell...but what you get is on line shopping, sight unseen, and may or may not get what you think you might like...price seems to a factor in beauty or willingness to hunt...
A young couple a few years ago bought four different weim pups this way, with the intent to breed and sell pups to make quick cash. The first was about 13 weeks old, they accidently ran over the pup upon leaving a visit to the beach, each thought the other put the pup in the car... the second female pup was mine...her sire is Hunter Hansel Jake Colsidex, no titles, just bred for $$$ and came from Ohio. She has a beautiful cowlick from the top of her noggin to her shoulders. I hear a bitch from the same line did very well in the show ring with the same cowlick. The young woman and this pup were not in sync w/each other and the cowlick repelled the woman. I obtained Misty at 9 weeks old, we hit it off from ten feet apart, walking to each other!
The third pup was also from within the Colsidex but also many other high quality lines, Misty knew before the young couple and I that this young pup had HOD, as it turned out, the worse case possible, she died at the caring vet's home, in another city and I do not believe the young couple ever paid her expenses, I certainly lost an airline carrier due to that fact, which was not so important to me...
The fourth pup was only $300.00 which meant she has an unquenchable thirst for retrieving, very strong drive, tireless, ugly, short legs, long body, runs sideways, legs in back go too fast for the front end...I ended up w/her last pup as a rescue, she was mated to Evad's son, Saxman's Banner, he was bought, never shown nor titled and disappeared upon impregnating this fourth pup in her third heat. She was bred first heat to my Slade's cousin, who was sterile, undescended, unbeknownst to them. The second heat she was bred to Banner who was at that time between 6-8 months old, still a pup, but a singleton was too large to come thru the birth canal and she was not taken to the vet. BTW Banner's entire pedigree was titled, excepting his dam at his birth but became titled shortly after, he wasn't allowed the chance to even have or become known upon a pedigree, nor titled...such a short and sorrow filled life...
I tell you this because yes, it is important to trust and to protect, to know and continue to know and to be assured...I still search for my Bully's sire's body and it has not shown up yet...when I obtained Bully in rescue he was 7 months old, bones and scabs, scars, belly full of worms, irritable bowel syndrome, stress diarrhea, frantic to bond and belong to be cherished... he'd been housed in a crate either with his dam or within the crate of an 80 pound male, starving and wormy, attacked, for being a puppy...
When I took him from the ACO at the shelter we immediately went to the country, in April to clean snow, a bit of water here and there, the clean smell of fresh tundra and plants growing, because he was so stink and dirty, living in his own feces, he'd been suddenly fed freely, which could have killed him by torsion, let alone the diarrhea, and his dam knew me from trying to previously help her, she was a bit angry with all the stress of it all, she tried to and did body slam me and almost nipped me as she flew by...
he saw all this, a young unexperienced pup I'd never seen because at that point I'd had to wash my hands of the ruin to become and to sit back to wait...I knew I'd eventually get at least one of the pups in rescue...he immediately raced to put himself between his dam and myself and would not allow her to come in contact unless she behaved...
he became my Bully, the one I never wanted, the one I'll never part with, Nome's Silver Bullet, a great hunting and retrieving weim, which I had neutered when it was safe to do so. He's a funny looking and handsome lad, the greatness from his sire shines thru, a few "off" things also shine out very pointedly to me, four things: chin juts forward, bite is wrong, front toes point out when coming to a stop and standing, tail and dewclaws badly botched in a home job, tail too short, dewclaws must have looked like they'd stripped them half way up his legs when he was first done! But when he is called, he comes, immediately, when he does stop motion, he throws himself into the "show ring stance" all on his own, without knowledge, and holds it there, when out in the field he is always in the correct areas to find game, he never gives up, when "searching" and night or day, asleep or awake, he is always ready to retrieve or defend me, both at once, in the blink of an eye, he's ready, eager, and finally healthy:)
My Misty cannot take cold, she must be tested for thyroid, otherwise, she's not able to hunt or retrieve unless she's outfitted properly to ensure she does not become hypothermic.
I am very thankful and forever greatful to have obtained my long hair pup, who is healthy, problem free, smart, my teacher, as much as I am his teacher, forever in debt to his breeders and another person who has his relatives for such a perfect weimaraner, which enabled me to travel to a part of the world I might never have gone to, to pick him up, to live with and learn from, get to know and cherish other people even though we might have language barriers and differences and live far apart, from friends of his relations who live with his weim relations, because the deal was I must come to see, meet, and prove myself, plus correspondence both on forums and personally or I wouldn't have my wonderful companion who is now seven months old today:) It took time and getting to know, trust and continue to stay in touch, which I must do again, but its my busy time of fishing and then will be the hunting to fill the freezers for winter, but it is an effort that I enjoy and wish to fulfill for life:)
This is the requirement if you wish to have the lifelong commitment on both sides. Otherwise, it is unknown all the way around...we are the ones who commit for life and would not have it otherwise. We anticipate learning and sharing, eagerly...and we have much to learn and share;)
