???Hi all. I sent a post through about 6 weeks ago, asking for advice on how to get my two into another room to sleep, instead of our bed, as I was going in for major surgury. Well, I am on the road to recovery now, still quite delidate, but thats to be expected. The thing is, we managed to put the dogs out of the bedroom hurray.. I make sure they are fed, watered, and emptied, and I always say goodnight, see you soon, keep the same routine etc. Rana, she has accepted it, although it breaks my heart when she looks at me, its like she feels left out, she looks so sad, but does not make a muff. Shadow, on the other hand, cries all night, still, after 4 weeks, throws himself at the doors, howls and a lot of the time, I will find a big poo on the floor when we get up. I have started to let him in our bed around 7am, so he can have the bit of attention he needs, then Rana looks in and looks sad, and walks away. HEEEEEEEEELP.............................................

Glad to hear you are on the road to recovery Sue.
Sounds like Shadow is stressing a bit. Can you try a stair gate across your bedroom door and leave all the doors open (they hate closed doors) and use the 'back to bed' but mean it. Both mine used to respond to that...........takes time though, they do try it on. Holly sneaked onto our bed the other morning and it must have been around 5am but she was so stealth like we didn't notice.
You need to stop the guilt bit too as they can pick up on it. They aint daft LOL.
Holly was in the spare room, where she sleeps ok, a while back and I needed to shut her in for some reason. When I went back there was a huge poo. She does not take kindly to being shut in and I think it has something to do with her previous life. I just avoid it now if I can.

Thanks greyghost, I do know that too, mine hate closed doors too. Rana went into a Weim only kennel a couple of years ago, and it nearly destroyed her. I will try aquire a safety gate to try, thank you.

The thing with the safety gate is maybe not to give them too much (if any) attention when on the other side of it and that includes eye contact. Try and ignore them and read a book. Holly knows when I am on the computer she doesn't get a look in LOL.

Thamks all, its sooooo hard isnt it, after being so soft with them. we are trying so hard to keep them in the other rooms of the house, and it just shows how we all make rods for our own backs doesnt it? Its just so difficult because I am still very weak and bit down at the moment....

Time to get tough Sue. Project the energy as the dog whisperer would say. You are in charge and its time they knew it. That does not mean you have to be unfair or cruel either.
Yes we do make a rod for our own backs. I was always one that wouldn't let my kids into our bed when they were young. Other friends have had their babies sleep with them all the time and when the time came to put them into their own rooms the whole house is upset.
Like the old saying goes: you have to be cruel to be kind.
Get as much rest as you can and try not to worry too much, you really don't need any stress at this time. The sooner you are up and about again the better for all concerned. BTW a great calming signal is yawning kind of tells the dogs to chill. Holly is forever yawning at me when I tell her to do something bit like reverse psychology lol.
