The Weimaraner Club of America magasine has the following request in it:
DNA SAMPLES
New research in the are of genetic disease in the Weimaraner Breed is gearing up at the Veterinary Genetic Laboratory (VGL) in the University of California, Davis. This project is lead by Noa Safra DVM PhD, a Weimaraner Breeder and WCA member since 1996. The goal of this research is the discovery of DNA markers for multiple Weimaraner inherited diseases.
The success of this project is directly related to the number and quality of the DNA samples provided for the research. We implore all Weimaraner Enthusiasts, worldwide, to participate in this unique opportunity to advance the health and wellbeing of the breed so dear to all of us.
Samples of any Weimaraner with either a definitive or suspected genetic condition will be considered. Please do no hesitate to contact me with regard to any condition you may have experienced. COnfidentiality is assured.
Contact information for the sample donations and inquiries:
Dr Noa Safra Email Address: nosasafra@gmail.com Address: 105 Seabury Drive, Bar Harbour, ME 04609 Phone: (US) 207 288 4319

These opportunities are very rare and I am sure that the European Weimaraner population has alot to offer this study.

Thank you for posting this Tasha. This is good news indeed and long overdue. I will definitely contact Dr. Safra and give him all the info he wants on my two Weims. Do I have permission to cross-post this request on our K9Autoimmune Yahoo list? We have plenty of Weims on there with genetic conditions. Dr. Safra could have a field day....

Thanks Tasha - I have done.... An error has just come to light - the correct email address for Dr. Safra is noasafra@gmail.com .... an accidental S has crept into the original email addy. It's such an important study IMHO - so please, anybody with a sick Weim, do take part.... Thanks, Christina

Tasha, sorry for all the confusion, but it seems that you did not have a 'happy hand' after all.... Noa's email addy *IS* correct as you typed it - nosasafra@....
But there seems to by trouble with Noa's email address, as several of us at first got their emails rejected as "undeliverable".... eventually they did arrive though. - I have had an email back from her, and I have tried to send her the predigrees and info she wanted ... only to have the mails come back at undeliverable again.... then eventually they went - but I am awaiting confirmation from Noa that she has indeed received them. Several times when I tried to "send" a panel came up, saying that there is a problem with the recipients server..... but eventually the mails left my outbox and haven't been returned - so here's to hoping !!
