Very few people here know Weimaraners, and I am always surprised if someone recognizes what Audry is. Usually people just plain ask what breed it is. Sometimes, however, they try to guess. ;D "That is a pretty dog, that's a Labrador, right?" (makes me want to scream "NOOOOO!!!!") (At a dog show, while passing a bunch of blue Great Danes) "Oh, how old is yours?" ;D I think the best was at the beach one time. We were passing this couple and the guy tells his girlfriend, "Look, that's an interesting dog, must be an albino Dalmatian!" (I HAD to stop and explain WHAT she was, I just couldn't leave those people thinking she WAS an "albino Dalmatian"!) Any similar stories? Does everyone usually know what breed it is?

I can understand that in your country it is a rare breed. I have very much contact with the Germans, as you know the breed was given their name in the region of the city of Weimar. But more than 50 % of the German people don't even know what breed it is and even the longhair is known fewer people.

My favorite has always been "Oh LOOK, a Greyhound!" Well, Enka is grey, and she is a hound, but she isn't a Greyhound.
It was my mother who always had trouble pronouncing Weimaraner though that tried her best to turn Enka into a drunken poet......she called her a

We've had:
Funny coloured Dobermann; baby Great Dane; Italian Greyhound; Greyhound; one of those dogs off the tv ad - what are they called? Grrr, makes you want to carry a billboard except then they wouldn't be able to pronounce it!
My kids call them smiley piranhas as they're always smiling and have wicked teeth!
